Pontiac gone

I think dependability and other factors come in to play alot more than looks. I bought a new car in Dec. 08. wanted something that would last for 10+ years and 200K+ miles I feel like I got that in my Honda which is why I bought it and not a cobalt or focus or anything else as well as the fact that my honda gets 40mpg and a cobalt is around 30. No american made cars get near the miles per gallon or mileage per life of the vehicle compared to honda toyota and several other foriegn car manufactures. Why can't the american auto makers make a car like them. And also when I bought my car some people said I wasn't supporting american's and should feel bad well if you go to a chevy lot and look you will see many of the cars like the cobalt are mostly made in Korea and assembled in mexico with like a 3% USA contribution to the whole car. I say screw them they sucked at business let them lose there business.

where to start...

I drive everyday an 07 Impala my company paid $16k for. it has 130k miles and other than a front end alignment and a tires it has had no problem. Seats 4 comfortably and get 26-28 mpg....Make sure you are comparing same class vehicles and same cost vehicles....you didnt metion what "honda" you had etc.

it doesnt matter WHERE THE CARS ARE MADE, it matters where the ownership is, when you buy from the big 3 those companies profit and pay US taxes, buy from foreign cars their companies profit and pay, japanese, korean, german etc taxes....If our govt is going to own American car companies and force Americans to pay for it we should at least drive our own companies cars.

thats a bit tongue in cheek I think everyone should drive what they want but the where they are made argument is tired and ill informed at best.

The sad part is Pontiac had been the "fresh" out of the box line for Gm for a few years...the G6 is actually a great car no one knows about, the GTO has major points...

Final thought, I see a lot of people wondering why GM has all these different "brands"

Do not forget that Chevy, Oldsmobile (remember them?), Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, HUMMER, SAAB etc were all stand alone brands at one time....in a sense this isnt Pontiac failing as a brand this is their 2nd failing as a brand they went bankrupt before GM assumed ownership.

hummer is OK, but there is no need for the H2, H3, etc. Those are made for GM to try to make a few $$$ off of the Hummer name because of the H1 populairity and high cost. I don't think they did a very good job of it, but thats just my opinioin. I think most that would have bought a H2 would have bought a Taho or similar vehicle, so I don't think they gained any market share with these models

Keep the H1 and it'll be a decent vehicle (but offer a Cummins engine option)

nope.. great move by them..
Now if only they would drop GMC, Hummer and Saturn they might have a chance.

did you know saturn is their most profitable brand?

if anything needs to be dropped its the UAW

NEVER happen....but a F250 with a factory Cummins....stay tuned

If GM want to be profitable, they need to ....Build a QUALITY PRODUCT THAT PEOPLE WANT TO BUY AND CAN HAVE FAITH IN THAT THE BUTTONS WON'T FALL OFF THE RADIO IN 2 WEEKS.

I'll second that! I've never owned a GM Product before, and I bought an '08 HHR. Suffice it to say that I'll never buy another GM product again. I can't wait to get rid of this car!

When did that change?
At least end of last year, Saturn had never made a profit. Well ok once..

>Since Saturn began production in 1990, it has been "break-even to slightly profitable" only in 1993 when it had just its original small coupe and sedan, says a Saturn spokesman. Saturn’s U.S. sales peaked in 1994 at 286,003 units.

Shame, they have some cool cars now.

good call, i should of fact checked that statement before i posted. i thought i heard on the news that it was profitable. a google search proves otherwise.

Owned 3 GM truck (2 S-10's and my current Sierra) and one Dodge(Dakota) and all problems I ever had with these truck were my own doing, either from lifting the trucks or wheeling it hard.
Dads always owned Ford and Dodges with no problems since he was a teen.
Moms always driven Chrysler and Dodges with no problems.
Basically my whole family has owned 99% American vehicles with great results and no major problems.
The one Toyota I know of in the family leaks oil like crazy.

Oh yeah and Mercedes is the biggest hunk of junk to roll of an assembly line.

I think you're missing something major. The american automakers came to the govt a while back and told them that foreign competition was not fair bla bla bla and complained... The govt's response was tariffs... After the tariffs were imposed guess what American automakers did? They raised their prices out of greed to make a larger profit and then put price levels right back on par with all the imported foreign automobiles.

Maybe we are saying the same thing differently but the US gets its money no matter what brand we buy. The difference is that the US has already gotten it's money on the foreign products due to the tariffs.

BTW I agree with you that an impala is a great vehicle.

The one mercedes my family ever owned got sold very quick.

The thing that gets me is that the new Camry, Accord, Odyssey, and Tacoma are all American designed and built. And those are just the one's I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others. BMW has a HUGE plant in SC that they are adding $700 million onto. X5's, X'6's and soon to be X3's are built in the states, providing thousands of Americans jobs. Who's bringing jobs to this country and who's sending them to Canada and Mexico?

My wifes '09 camry has a lifetime warranty on all internally lubricated parts so if at 500,000 miles the motor blows a brand new motor will cost me $100. That is what sold me on the car.

great marketing ploy....

you will never have it that long the warranty is non transfrable and its 3k more than a similar competitor...IOW you paid for that motor change whether you use it or not...

I don't know about him...but my wife and I drive cars till they are worn the hell out. If I bought a new car(which would never happen anyway), I promise it would be a Honda or a Toyota. IMHO domestic cars are over priced pieces of shit for what you get, I'll pay the extra 3k for a Jap ride.

She will drive it till the wheels fall off just like I do. My daily driver is a 1972 Ford f-350 flatbed. When I pulled in tonight in it I was weighing a little over 19,000 lbs. and it was running fine so I will get back in it in the morning. And so will she when the Camry has 300k on it. As for being 3k higher than competators that's not true. Believe me I checked. It took me two months to buy that car. Although I didn't even consider a domestic brand because domestic stuff is junk in comparison. I wish Toyota would produce a full sized diesel I might would give up the old Ford.

I mean, new diesel trucks are $45k too, unless you act serious, an then all of a sudden they are about $33k.
