Now that I got your attention...a question for the outdoors folks:

I took my dog for a walk a couple of days ago, across an overgrown pasture at the end of our street. Overgrown, to the point of 2' to 5' pine trees. Regularly see deer, and on two occasions, coyotes in the field.

Anyway, I found a pile of poop. I'd have to describe it as a "blob"...not pellets, not lumps, not sausages, just a pile. Maybe enough to fill up a quart jar but not quite,. It appeared to be mostly berries of some sort, and nut remnants...at least that's what it looked like.

I've seen a fair amount of bear scat, and that's what it looks like, but although possible, I'd say it's unlikely. BTW, this was in Sanford, 30m S of Raleigh.

I searched for tracks, it was in a grassy area, didn't find anything.

So...what might it be? Sorry, no pics.

First, eeww... :poop:

Second... there are coyotes in Raleigh, I don't see why there can't be bear (or even coyote) in Sanford.

there is a bear roaming around Hickory now. He lives somewhere in the woods behind the water treatment plant....so I suppose raleigh isnt too far out of the picture.

you'd be surprised how many bears venture this far from the coast. there have been numerous sightings over the years back in johnston county where im from.

I'd guess if it was (i'm still doubtful, just because), he was just passing thru. i'm getting a game camera on loan, but it'll be next week before I pick it up.

thats what they do. i seriously doubt you'll get a picture of it even if it was a bear. from what i understand, males tend to wander during mating season (june-july) so this guy may have just been passing thru on his way back home.

when i was about 13 or so, i found a bear track on the edge of a big mud hole i got my fourwheeler stuck in way back off the road at my house. i was scared shit less haha. a mile back in the woods with no gun or anything to protect myself and a stuck fourwheeler, i dont think ive ever cranked a come-a-long that fast in my life. i just knew that joker was about to come barreling out of the bushes like on tv to eat my ass up!

Man you gotta call the Destination Truth Show, they will come out,get freaked out and run away from nothing all on TV.Besides Josh always has some good looking girl with him:Rockon:

my bad guys, i was up in that area and had gotten lunch from a mexican burrito truck. i gues it had upset my stomach when mixed with the trail mix and blue berry panckes id eatin for breakfst. nah, jk

bears are known to travel very long distances sometimes. we had one around greensboro a year or 2 ago i think.

The police had to tranq and remove a bear from the waffle house parking lot in Anderson, SC last year. If this bear was eating at waffle house too, it would explain the volume and consistency of the feces in question. Not sure about the nuts and berries though.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is advising hikers and campers to take extra precautions and keep alert for bears while in the field. They advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. They also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper.

 Yeah, but if it's mostly nuts and berries, it's still a wild animal...

Speaking of that -

I read an article in a cooking magazine the other day at work and it was an article about a lady that ate only fresh fruit and has for 21 years because cooking is killing. She didn't even eat plants because it was killing them. When she craps out the fruit seeds, she's spreading life and therefore it isn't killing.

Rob mentioned some bad indigestion the other day...
