Popping sound at rear tires

I hear it when I'm driving at really slow speeds coming to a stop, and on passenger side when I tighten my lug nuts, it's like the tire moves a little when I put torque on it and it makes a popping sound, is that the rear dif, axles, drum brakes or what?

If you jack it up does it pop when you try to turn the wheel by hand fore and aft or does it pop when you shake it like your looking for a bad wheel bearing

Haven't tried that, just noticed today when the rear tires were off the ground and I was using the tire iron to tighten lug nuts, when they got tight it seemed like the wheel wanted to turn forward and made the pop. But it does it every time I brake too

look at your sway bar ends on the axle. they might be hitting the wheel weights on your rims. or it could be the cable adjuster spring inside the brake drum is broken?

any updates as to what it was?

8.25 rear diffs allow the shafts to move in and out more than other applications do. It's not a sign of a failure or anything, just an inherent characteristic.
I've seen that a few times in the past

Curios as well. My 00' makes a clunking sound. I thought it was my Tcase. I fixed that and still hear it when I slow down and speed up sometimes. Not all the time. But as I speed up or slow down so does the sound, but after a certain speed I don't hear it.
I just been turning the radio up lol.

That's what my buddy said, get louder speakers lol. Mine does it only when I'm braking at really low speed, and when I left off the brakes and accelerate for a few seconds then goes away. I hope the grease works

Jeep mechanic said the popping was the rear leaf springs. I got new new ones for my 3" lift from RC and he said they're supposed to have a little movement but didn't know why they designed them that way but that's what it was
