So I have this potato gun and its been working great up until lately.. Ive been using Axe body spray as my ignitor which gives it about a 50ft range. I am curious if anyone has tried anything different.. I hear carb spray works great and also propane but am a little hesitant if that will burst the PVC.. I have it wrapped in alot of duct tape in hopes that if that happens there wont be shards flying everywhere. What yall think? Any other tater launchers out there?

yes.... aqua net hairspray is BY FAR the best stuff i have ever used

you know, if'n i did such dangerous and dubious activities as shooting tater guns.

Hairspray is by far the best/cheapest fuel to use.

You know Adam, I still have that singed Carhart jacket from when that white PVC tater gun you and BC build during highschool exploded on me.

Good old-fashioned Aqua Net

x2

JT filled the chamber with oxygen from a tank one time. Nobody wanted to fire the gun that time:lol: Finally his neighbor volunteered.

:lol::shaking:

Does he play with old SoBe bottles, too?

hairspray, and fyi if you use enough it is possible to blow the barrel out of the chamber, me and my cousin did it once, nothing explosive but the gun was done for

you'll have to play with the mix...but oxy and rubbing alcohol. scared myself with that mix one time!

the ignitor is a few feet of wire so I can seperate myself from the gun, so ill let you know what the "bad" mix is when its blown to peices.. Thanks! Aqua net up first!

Whats wrong with usin oxygen?

by the way....

we used a water sprinkler valve and comressed air and got much more effectiveness than with combustioned powered guns.

we could put a D battary THROUGH a copier, a car door, a wooden fence, and what ever else we could aim it at, lol.

if you build it right, you can have interchangable barrels to accomodate different size projectiles.

Reid, lemme get that design!!

the oxygen vastly increases the burn rate of whatever you put in the chamber.

I used haispray, starter fluid, or anything flamable

if you wanna scare the :poop: out of someone, load up a grocery bag while they arent looking, and then make them think its a normal tater. at the last second turn and shoot it at them. (just make sure they are far enough away to not get burned)

The bag poofs up and goes about 10 feet

drip a few drops of glow stick innards on the tater and have tater tracer rounds.

we once made a barrel that was short and would fit a roll of toilet paper. you had to plug the tube, and we could never get it to shoot as far as we hoped, although it was a mild success.

my dad and i made our first tater gun together when i was about 5, so i have a good couple of decades playing with them.....

Just out of curiosity... what are you using to light the gun?

I use air in mine with the red handled twist valve.
Works good enuff I can get antenna lines over 70-80 foot trees.

^^ I use a lantern sparker. old school, but i have the best luck with them.

I have also used grill igniter buttons, had a buddy with a spark plug and a coil , among other things

We used the lantern sparker too. Never failed with that. We tried a grill ignitor in one, but it wasn't as reliable.

Yeah, mine has a lantern sparker... I think all the AquaNet gummed it up. I need to clean it out and put a new flint in it, but figured I'd ask in case some awesome new potato gun tech had come along in the last 15 yrs.

Grill lighter with propane and acetelane and a touch of oxygen. I wrapped the entire gun with heave masons line and usedPVC glue to hold everything together. As shot we use lug nuts with a paper towel wadding, barbie doll heads, 4ft fluroesent light bulbs, old bolts and washers and nuts. We shot a tater through a windshield of a 72 Camaro at twenty foot (windshield was in the car). A friend of mine uses a fuel injecter out of a chevy with the fuel pump. Fires it with a spark plug and a coil! A little too much fun for me!
