I am working on the water pump on my Excursion and have ran into some minor problem. I was able to get the pump out w/ the fan still attached. While in the truck I could not get enough leverage to break the bolt that holds the fan unit on. So now that I have it out I still can't break this bolt. I looked at the new pump and the threads don't look to be all that. The other problem is the pulley is held on w/ four little bolts they screw into the new pump...well I can't get those off until I get the fan off.

So...i don't want to take the torch to it since i would probably melt my fan...and blow the bearings in the pulley....if I need to do the torch thing I might sacrafice the pulley and save the fan...any input would be appreciated...

The fan clutch is a $200+ part, may want to think about applying outside heat trying to save the fan and clutch.

The ideal way to remove is to do it with the belt still inplace and the proper tools.

Do you have a bench mounted vice that the old W/P impeller can fit in ? set it in that, or use a large pipe wrench,
