I found a local truck, for what seems like a good deal, but since I am not familiar, I figured Id ask...

97 F250, std cab
2wd, 7.3, 5spd
service body, looks to be in good shape
301k

they are asking $2500 for the truck...

Just really wanting to know about experience with a truck w/ that many miles, and whether that is a decent price...

good engine, should last atleast another 100k if it was maintained well. The clutch is expensive to replace, like near a grand(for parts alone) if you go with the factory style.
Should get about 15-17mpg loaded or not. The ZF 5spd is near bullet proff, great trans, but shifts, well, like a truck!

The engines will last forever. The main problems they give in high milage are injectors and TPS...I'd give 3rd gear some hell in the test drive. I about bought one before I got my dodge. 3rd gear was pretty rough so I passed on it.

The glow plugs also suck in those trucks

A Luk replacement clutch/flywheel is $550 and do not go back to a factory dual mass flywheeel.Mine has 378K and get's 16-18 empty and 10-12 pullin my 1ton K5 and 18 foot tag-a-long to Harlan. The 5speed is geared kinda funny,in town 1st is about to low for merging into traffic and 2nd is about too high for pullin out from a stop. The glow plugs suck to change, and count on putting a cps in it at sometime.Thats a pretty good price,I would'nt take that for mine with more miles.
