I've got a 99 F250 2wd super duty that needs a transmission (auto) from searching around it looks like this thing is specific to this year...I've found a 2002 from an E350 PSD van but am told it won't work. what's the difference between the years? I sort of assumed a 99-2002 2wd trans would work in it, but this isn't what the salvage yard is saying...any ideas?

should be a 4r100 trans & 99-02 will work as long as you get a diesel trans if yours is diesel & gas trans if yours is gas
hope this helps
also I would not get a used one 4r100 are bad to go out
BNL transmission in Cherrville ( 704-435-1900 ) will update & upgrade yours for $1600 to 1800 he was running a special for $1600 OTD ( $200 off )

From what I've read the turbine speed sensors are in different locations on years after 99 that's why the 02 won't work...Now I'm trying to find out how to "make" one work.

the only reason they would be in different locations is if your truck has a pto cover, the van won't have a pto cover. either way i would think there is enough slack in the wiring harness to make them reach. if not you could always just splice a few inches of wire into the harness.
