Any structural engineers on here? What's a reasonable price to get engineered drawings for a 12x20 addition? Should be pretty straightforward. I'm going to be converting a partially covered deck into an office space. Will be extending the existing roof of the deck 8 feet and removing everything else to pour a slab to match up to the slab for the house.

Not a ton of help, but...my PE friends charge me 2,500 to stamp drawings I make.

Those don't sound like very good friends! But then again, I see the company that you keep around here. o_O

Hopefully those are projects much larger in scope than this one!

Doesn't matter. From $10k to $500k, thats the going rate for 1 stamp on 1-5 drawings.

Remember every time a PE seals a drawing he is literally staking his career on that design. If it fails he is liable. Sure he has E&O but...

I'll let the PEs chime in but going rate around here is $200/hr for EE design work.

Some are great friends. I want them to be successful. I dont balk at the price because I know there will be a day when I need a freebie...

Id say $2-2.5k is accurate. It costs us $300 for a simple rail, and a couple grand for a simple stair.

So my pencil sketch wont work? I can church it up a bit with a title block and a scale......I think we got some stamps to if thats all they want.

As a friend or acquaintance of a friend, I wouldn’t expect a discount and would be happy to pay the rate for good work. Their time is just as important as mine, no reason to discount it.

Just paid $1,300 to have my custom house plans engineered and stamped last week.
