Price of freon

For what it's worth, I overheard one of the smarter guys in my local Advance telling a customer to stock up now. He was told by corporate that once their current stock is depleted, the price is to double on the new stuff. True? I don't know. Just thought I'd give you guys the heads-up.

got a case or two myself...never see a need for it...or hadn't in 8-10 years or so.

My dad is still going through the 50 or so 30lb jugs of R-22 he bought a few years back, I think they were almost $100 cheaper per jug then than they are now, so it really paid off over the last few years.

Oh and FYI, R-134A, and that new R-1234 stuff, is not "Freon", R-12 is "Freon" and can't be bought anymore anyway. And yea, we still have a case of R-12 lying around, haven't needed it, since all of our AC vehicles are now new enough to have R-134A anyway.

It is all bullshit, as soon as the patent starts to run out on R-1234 Dupont will come up with some data that says it is bad for the environment and they will come out with R-2345 or something. It will be a neverending cycle for this bullshit.

I used to have a case of R-12, but we got bored and drunk one night and shot them with pellet guns in the tall grass. Then we shattered it because it was all frozen.

They already have. We all know the elimination of CFCs has reversed the depletion of the Ozone layer. Yay. However, they're saying now that the HFCs used in 134 are a "Super Greenhouse Gas," on an order of magnitude WORSE than CO2! Just goes to show that changing your environment, no matter how small a scale, has larger consequences. Price we pay, I guess.
