Epson scanner /printer, I use it for scanning work stuff, don't print very often.

your basic ink jet printer.
I believe the print heads have dried up, any ideas what to use to clean the heads ?

I have electrical contact cleaner, brake cleaner ( Chlorinated and non ) carb cleaner, diesel fuel, gasoline, oven cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, methyline chloride, simple green, windex, Dawn, and a few other things I haven't laid eyes on.

What to clean the print heads with ?

use simple green. follow zjmoms steps. im not sure how advanced your printer is either, but some of the higher end (all inkjets are POS's) have some advanced tools and utilities you can use to cycle, or clean the print heads. what that does is basically sprays burst of ink at slightly higher pressure to clear the nozzles of dried ink.

dont waste alot of time on this. just buy a new printhead.

old computer tech tip.

rubbing alcohol and q-tip.

just dont rewet the q-tip in the alcohol if you plan on reusing it for medical stuff later.

you gotta be careful with q-tips. sometimes the strands can stick to the bottom of the printhead and leave an annoying streak in your prints.

if you do use a q-tip, inspect the bottom of the printhead carefully before reinstalling.

Also, there is a purge station, usually on the left side of the carriage assembly. On that purge station there are black rubber pads that the print head rubs accross. these are wipers. Alot of times there is an ink build up on them, and if you dont clean them too, your right back at square one the first time the print engine cycles.

Kevin, not trying to be a smart ass... toss the Epson, get an HP. This advice comes from experience with Epson. Good Luck! :)

I've had good luck with the hot water. I take a paper towel put it on a plate, soak it in water, microwave it so its steaming. Put cartridge on it for a while. Reheat water and repeat if needed.

No.

Unless that HP is a LaserJet, it's a POS.

Consumer inkjets are paperweights for the most part, but Epson, Canon... worth fixing. HP, not so much.

I guess I must just be a lucky HP buyer then... I've got an HP 5610 sitting in front of me that is already twice as old as the POS Epson it replaced. It works flawlessly. I have another HP (an old 882C) on the bench in my shop, and it too works flawlessly. I stand by my recommendation.

HP doesnt even make parts for their inkjets. You cant fix them. and their laserjets are built by Canon.
