Privacy fence cost

Do you guys have a general idea of what a 6ft, built on site, dog ear privacy fence cost per ft? My sister in law is getting quotes to have her yard fenced in and they're coming back at 17/ft. I did a quick materials takeoff and I'm estimating around 3g just in materials. Fence is roughly 420'. Adding I all the labor, I don't feel like 17/ft is bad. I'd like some insight before I tell her to pull the trigger on it and find out the going rate is 14 or something.

PS- I'm about to fence in our new business property. Here are some mill-direct prices to consider. (wholesale cost)
6'x8' privacy panels are $39 ea in full bundles
4x4x8 PT are approx $7 ea
Concrete is like $5 bag
So that's roughly $7.25 LF true cost before a single hole is dug or there's any material mark up at all.

I was using Lowes prices to some what account for markup. I'm sure he has a supplier that he gets better than Lowes list price from. I had her specifically tell him that it needs to follow the contours of the yard rather than using 8ft panels. Her yard has a pretty good grade on it and the fence would look stupid chopped up in 8ft sections with no two panels being the same elevation.

My math had 17/ft looking pretty fair. I'm glad you think so as well.

$17 seems pretty fair. I think our initial estimate for a 4' picket wood fence in the back yard of our place was originally around $16/ft including a double gate up top and a single down at the fire pit.

$17 is standard in our area for 5 foot fence like you described. 6' shouldn't cost anymore because that's how the material normally comes.

Do not let them use the pre-built panels the quality isn't good long term.

i would also ask that they use 4 horizontal 2x4's instead of three, it provides more strength and keeps the boards from warping at the top/bottoms.

6"x6" posts at the gates is also nice.

5 ft tall wood is really more labor or material costs than 6 ft because the pickets need to be cut down

6x6 gate posts are a must. Get steel frames if it’s offered. Gates will usually be the first thing to fail.

2x4s every 2’ in height. Boards won’t curl if there is about 3” floating.

Def want it site built. Panels are cheap and use 2x3's a lot of the time. 6' o/c posts are better than 8' . Yes on 6x6 gate posts and make it wider than you think you need or have another access for mowers, carts even drive thru. Have at least the bottom cross board to be a 5/4x6" which is much more stable and more nailing surface. Look around and see if you see any fences being installed and go talk to the crew, they are usually subs and will do it on the side for you if you want to go that route which may save you some money.

I had 500 ft quoted last year, @ $9800.. or $19.6/ft (same 5ft, dog-eared privacy fence)

I installed a 5ft black chain link myself for about 1/3 of that and haven’t looked back

Where is the best place to pick up chain link material? I asked at the local fencing place, but they seemed to price it expensive because I wouldn't have them install it.
