I have a 79 Dana 60 king I just got back together has 5:38 gear and a Detroit in it I put it back together. And I noticed when I turn the yoke 3/4 to a full turn it feels like it is binding. But once it passes that point it is fine. also it tries to turn to the right when in this binding stage. Any ideas???

Also hubs are unlocked

Sounds like a warped rotor to me.Take the calipers off and check again.

Could also be a bad ujoint in axle shaft.

Also, are the gears dry? Meaning no lubricant? I'm assuming your gear man did a clean install. Lubricate the gear faces with gear oil and try again. If the gears are dry, it doesn't take much to make them bind due to trash or small metal pieces.

did you replace shafts when you did this rebuild? aftermarket stub shafts for the ford 60 always seem to require a slight bit of trimming to fit correctly. they will rub on the inside of hub cap and if turning by hand it feels like binding.

i believe it is the u joint... the axle's are dry i was going to fill them up when i got it under the jeep... no there stock shafts . im going to pull it back apart and replace the u joint.
