This is up in the ECORS competitor section but I thought I'd toss it over here too.

I took this on to have a little fun building a rig that brings back the old school for a change and still be able to go race. I knew I wanted a XJ simply because I'd never worked on one and they are roomy.

Started with a quick Craigslist search, 1 phone call, hooked up to the trailer and $900 later...

1988 Cherokee with 244k on the clock. Purchased on 3/17/2011

Interior was stripped and the original color showed it's face.

1st up was safety. I started bending tube and laying out a design as I go cage in 1.5" x .120 wall DOM

Recycled some seats and harnesses from a rig I just tore down

Sponsorship idea lol, but I think you have to have big rims to get sponsored like that.

looks badass though, wish I had your tube skills, would throw a ecors racer together, just worry I would roll it and hurt myself after seeing a few races.

This sponsorship idea has already been branded...

End result will be unveiled soon...

I must confess it's my codawg that has the skills to make tube fit. I bend it, he fits it and I weld it. That's our system and it works well. I hate grinders

And we have a racer ready to rock

Looks wicked, yall gonna be running this one in auburn?

I dont know why anyone would be concerned about the almighty XJ crumbling....:lol::lol::rolleyes:

I might have this covered with all the steel attached to the unibody rails. If not, I'll build a tube "chassis" kinda like a Yota I've seen around. I almost bent 1.75" x .188 wall tube to run the entire length but said screw it, I'll fix it if I wad it up.

Race prepped, cleaned up and after a quick upper control arm swap and front axle alignment it will be ready to roll in the trailer.

Little update..

Raced it in the ECORS Auburn race last weekend. It was pretty good, decently fast and holding it's own against the field except for that pesky Lil Digger truck. Lap 4, engine blew up. #1 rod cap decided to bow out early.

The shocks were awful compared to what im used to, they won't work at all.

The AW4 was uncooperative as can be, not knowing what it was about to do between 1-2-3 shifts wasn't cutting it and it slowed me down in the woods.

The fix..

A call to Advance Adapters and they sent me adapters to fill the Cherokar with a newer 4.0, TH350 and flipped D300.

So next week in goes a 56k mile 4.0 with a few upgrades, a MVB TH350 and a flipped D300 w/ 32 spline upgrades.

Downsouth Motorsports hooked me up with Fox smooth body remote resi shocks all the way around to smooth out the bumps.

Should have it ready to test in a couple weeks. This thing is a blast to drive! Look out David G!
