Project light and low Samurai buggy

i have a 4.30 ring gear and pinion. no damage just pulled it to install 5.29s.
no housing just the gears. pm me if interested.

what are you going to do for springs?

I ended up finding a 4.30 E-locker third.

I was planning on buying some Fox air shocks from the TRD guy on this board.
 
Man I'm on board with everything you are saying but being a friend with a guy named ADAM with a 2.0 turbo is a bad idea...I'd stay away. Might get hit by a piston or a rod or something really hot

That is for sure. My almost two year long shed project is about to come to a close. Maybe something will begin to happen.
 
Looks like we both cut our tubs about the same amount. I ditched the stock frame and built my own with 2x4" .120 tube. Going to use 1.5 or 1.75 for the rest of my chassis. Maybe you can start making progress on yours again soon.

Do you have a build thread on your rig?

It is crazy how the cutting process happens. Start cutting some, cut some more, then a little more. The next thing ya know, you've cut most of it away. I've been told by more than one person that what I am doing is not the best way, and that I should start with a full tube chassis. At the beginning it sounded easier to do it like I am doing because I don't have to touch the engine, transmission, or TC mounting or any engine wiring. I am now considering going with a different engine from the start since it is probably just a matter of time before I want more power, so that changes things. I've been looking at using the Chevrolet 2900 motor that came in the Colorado. I want to keep this thing 4cyl powered and relatively small.

I don't have a build thread yet. Not much progress right now but I've been taking pictures of the work so far. Once I actually get moving I'll probably start one.

I cut out about as much as I had planned on the body. It had rust in all the places I cut off. Going to run a full size Samurai hood on it though.
 
The bumping of the YJ thread made me think of this thing. @drkelly did you ever get anywhere with this? Do you still have it? I still remember seeing you run all around the flats in that thing embarrassing people.

Sadly, I haven't touched the Samurai in many years. Taking it apart was one of the worst decisions that I have made. I caught buggy fever and wanted a better, smoother ride. I don't know what is going to happen to it.

Just get started back on it, one small thing at a time and you'll be back out there. Or get some help from other builders for different parts that your struggling with then put it all together.

If I didn't have a house full of teenagers and any kind of motivation I would buy it and tinker with it. I thought it had alot of potential.

Sell it to someone that is going through a divorce and looking for a good project to keep his mind in good spirits! :) (thats me by the way) haha

I know what you mean. Mine suffered the same fate in the process to being a buggy.

I'd be down for some weekend wrenching sessions to help you gain some traction on this build. My Toyota has been sitting for way too long as well, and I know the frustration.
