Would you rather see a kid build a 4x4 or play soccer in his spare time?

I've got a 14 year old nephew who has basically lost his Dad due to alcoholism and has moved several states away. He is a great kid and loves to go 4 wheeling. He needs a decent male role model. (Unfourtunately, I am one of the 2 he's got. LOL!) I decided to give him a project truck that we could work on together. I would like to get it ready for him to drive legally when he is 16, and around my Dad's house in the country until then. It is a old J10 Jeep truck, which should run and drive with a little TLC. I am looking for some 6 lug wheels and 33's for it. The deal is, he has to work odd jobs and save his birthday money and I will match him dollar for dollar and hour for hour that we work on it. Trying to teach him how to wrench on it and do some body work, etc... I showed him some pictures of finished ones and he is drawing what he wants to build. (Camo, of course!) If anybody has some decent off road rubber, or other goodies they would part with that will work on the truck, let me know. Its going to a pretty decent cause, the kid is pumped about it and hopefully we can teach him how to stay out of trouble and have a great hobby at the same time. Thanks in Advance!

I'd vote both. I think both activities are good for a boy of his age.
 
Football or baseball, please ot soccer lol. But learning how to wrench is a great skill that will be usefull for the rest of his life.

Bethel Church Rd changes names to Haw River Rd when it crosses into Guilford County. I take that road into K'ville regularly, and don't live too far from there. I'm just east of 68 about 3 miles north of Oak Ridge.
 
Gotcha. I date a girl that lives right there below what ever that American Idol guys name is.
 
It amazes me how much time, money, and energy people invest into travel soccer programs.

The same can be said about 4wheelin lol, I could be wrong but I think most people here have spent more money on their rigs and parts than the average soccer player.

Oh no, it's no comparison. Imagine carting your kid to some tournament out of state, staying in a hotel, playing a couple of games of soccer, getting home late on Sunday night after leaving on Friday, and then doing the exact same thing nearly every weekend, all year round. They spend more money on hotel rooms in a year than I've got in my gooseneck hauler.
 
well its not a voting option....but i choose no camo and keep the awesome scallops :rockon:
 
Yeah as I said I could be wrong haha. I guess that would add up quick. I've never personally dealt with a traveling soccer program. I guess I was just referring to the "average" soccer player. But like others have said both would be a good thing to do!

Yeah... Him. Couldnt think of his name. I like the scallops too... Wonder how the scallops would look in a camo color over olive drab?

Itd be something different, either over olive drab or do like 2 different camo patterns so id kinda be like ghost scallops haha
