Merry Christmas to me! Always wanted a J truck. Picked this one up from a fellow member down in Spartanburg.
1977 J10, Short bed. 360, T18, D44's, Factory A/C, 70,000 miles. Cab is very solid and the bed only has minimal rust.

Build plans are to do a M715 style truck with the better parts the more modern J truck offers. I want to add the round fender wells/extensions and it already has the correct Kaiser grill installed. Going to modify the short box to take the rear round flares. If I get real ambitous, maybe adapt a NV4500 to make the road trips more RPM friendly. Planing on it being a driver/hunting rig with decent offroad capabilities. I am keeping the A/C and other creature comforts like working heat and wipers!

Needs:
~ Your input and experience with these trucks.
~ Tailgate.
~ York A/C compressor and upper bracket.
~ Front M715 fenders.
~ 37''-40" tires and 6x5.5 wheels. (Maybe recentered Hummers?)
~ Military nick nacks like lights, D rings, etc...
~ Aluminum dual plane intake for the 360.
~ Dana 300 that will fit the T18
~ D44 4.56 gears and chromemoly shafts.
~ Mil color interior cloth.
~ Best place to get Mil paint.

Awesome with the Kaiser Front end!! What a find!
I know, right?!! Love that Kaiser front end, it's so ugly it's awesome! Makes the whole truck look 20 years older. I am sketching up a grill guard and bumper that mimics the M715 but is beefier and hides a winch behind it.:huggy:

the truck says j-2000? is that like a j20? and dont j20s have a D60 rear? i dont know much about j-trucks and that could just be an emblem someone stuck on but i figured id ask neway. great lookin truck btw. love those kaiser grills.

Ordered a HEI and a carb kit for it last Saturday. May get it fired up this weekend. Got the pistons soaking in Marvel Mystery Oil just in case a ring got stuck while it was sitting. Going to prime the oil system after I make a priming tool out of the old distributor. The old electronic ignition box had melted down the fenderwell a while back, so I got a HEI to eliminate the hassels that come with the factory set up.

that grill looks typical of a j2000. I can't remember all of the differences but some had single headlights, some had dual headlights, and some had other things in the front.

cool none the less...

by mil paint do u mean military paint??? If so its just olive drab can get anywhere I would get the industrial though if u gonna do it. I have a m715 but its black they are awesome trucks..

I am thinking about the old school woodland camo. I guess that is O.D. plus the 2 other colors (Black and tan). I just wanted to get the right shades where it looks good.
Maybe even the Vietnam era tiger stripe camo. I dunno know yet.

the tiger strip is awesome do that would be cool.... I was a week away from buying your truck if no one else did had to sell some stuff I think the truck will turn out pretty cool... Just so u know a single (used fender) from a m715 will probably cost u around 200-250 bucks unless u get a really good deal. probably be cheapr to just buy a whole m715 and use the stuff off it u need the part the rest out. the parts are worth alot of money..

Ive beenwanting to paint my jimmy tigerstripe or subdued tigerstripe for YEARS and just never got around to doin it......not quite sure how to go about doin it

Would make an even cooler looking desert truck without the 715 fenders.
I agree. I am already building the Scout for the desert stuff. If I would have found this first, I would have been more tempted to do a prerunner build. They look awesome that way and have a lot of Baja history. Simple fact is, they are just too heavy to fly them like I do.
