Prom Date Rejected - local CNN News

whats the matter? thats the way it was when i was in highschool, not exactly hard to understand. the rules say no one over 21, the guy is 23. sounds pretty cut and dried to me.

I am torn on this one. On one hand, it is her brother, who recently returned from Iraq, and would be a nice gesture. On the other hand, if the school makes an exception here, they will get asked to make exceptions every year.

thats just my opinion. I think you are right - exceptions would have to be made if the dominoes fell but only for Valid reasons should be people be excluded.

What if they were married?

Asking your older brother to escort you to the prom? That's just nasty! :shaking:

Seriously, why didn't they just make him an honorary ADULT "chaperon"? Have him "tailed" by another adult to make sure he doesn't spike the punch or start hitting on the freshman...

OTOH, that would create precedence for some student/family next year wanting to be escorted by their prostitute sister or recently released from a Fed prison on drug charges (innocent of course) brother...

Irrelevant. Rules are simple, under 21. He could be Jesus, dosn't get in. It's called a rule b/c it's applied universally.

eeeeeww - to her brother??

I get what your saying Matt
and I do agree Dave... rules are rules... but I think sometimes people need to use their fucking heads and using clear judgement. yeah this may be the doorway to bureaucracies in proms now but wtfever. you get my point.

Well, it is Lincolnton! :D

I'm just stirring the pot and adding humor. Basically it should never be an issue. There is this thing called discretion, and police officers use it all the time.

And the reasoning "he's over 21, he has access to alcohol" just doesn't hold water.
Anyone who believes high schooler's don't have access to alcohol is fooling themselves.
The chaperones and staff are over 21, they have access to alcohol, and they are permitted to hang out/dance/interact with kids at the prom.

got a freind that the school didnt let him bring his date (cant remember why) so he brought a Blowup doll.

^ Now that's priceless.... Bet the rules said nothing about "must be organic, or currently with pulse"...

Lincoln county schools suck to start with. Sain was at lincolnton up to my senior year, he wasnt to awful bad. I think an exception should have been made.

And the alcohol argguement is dumb. I drank more in one year of high school then the 3.5 years ive been out. They can and will get it.

I know there are some idiots that serve our country and would take advantage of this situation, but for the most part I dont think anything bad would happen.

And the he will be around young girls bs, they aint gonna F&*& at prom it will be at an after party, which he can attend.

So really as long as they screen who it is (like <26 not a criminal etc) it should be allowed.

Just thought of another good point I had a pe teacher that was like 28( all the girls thought he was the hottest thing) how is that any different??? he can do w/e with the kids.

Why is this on the news? I'm pretty sure there's way more important issues that should be covered. The school made rules and are sticking to them. I give the principle props for actually having a pair. Why is this chick wanting to take her brother anyways? Could she not find a REAL date?
