Don't do it. You'll also want to keep the garage door cracked when it's on

what he said. I usually try to keep flamable stuff more than 5 feet from the front of it. Either crack open the man door a foot if you have one or leave the big roll up door open a foot. Be careful spraying chlorinated brake clean with it running too! I cant begin to tell you how bad a headache thatll give you.

wait. to summarize

dont put a heat shield in front of it

do leave a simple 5 foot radius? so if my tire is in direct line at 6 feet, its safe? lol

i hear you on ventilation.

Yep. Put it in front of the vehicle aimed under it or between the vehicles if its in a two car. By about 5 to 6 feet from the fire its cool enough you can stand or hold your hand in front of it. At 2 to 3 feet its too hot. Id leave it at least a foot to the sides and back of the heater. Get it, fire it up and youll see what we mean.

I used a 35000 btu one in a single car garage before I built my 24x30 12 foot high shop. Then I had to buy another til I put in a heat pump

I've used the 'Master' brand of the same heater, https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/master-gas-forced-air-heater-60-000-btu?cm_vc=-10005 , for the last three years in my shop, and it's worked well. I've always kept it with at least 12ft clear in front of it, but you likely don't have that much space. I've also not needed to crack the door, but again, I'm in 1,200 Sqft shop with a 24' ceiling, so have a lot more air available. So yeah, Keep the main door cracked for ventilation, And A good deal of space free in front of the unit. Also, for the most part, I don't keep it anywhere near it's max setting, you can probably crank it down quite a bit in a garage, and minimize the chances of lighting things in front of it on fire...

dang so will this one work? the ceiling above isnt insulated (attic area entrance), but the walls are sheet rock and insulation I believe. Thoughts?

Most likely, especially if it has a 10 foot ceilings or so. My shop is a metal pole barn with basically the foil bubble wrap insulation. It has no ceiling so its 12 foot to the bottom of the truss but 20 foot to the peak. I was heating all that air up. I used the 35k and a 80k convection heater which is like a metal trash can with a turkey fryer burner in it, no fan. The 35k wasnt adjustable it ran max all the time, the 80k I would turn down to between 1/2 and 1/4 heat. So I had roughly 60 to 65k heat, your heater is a 60k unit.

I would think a 35,000 would be plenty to heat a 1 or 2 car garage... Like I said above, I'm heating my whole shop comfortably (40'x30' - 24' Ceiling) with a 60,000btu

I have 2 of these I will sell. One is still in opened in the box and the other I used twice last year. Pm me if your interested.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd think that taking the time to insulate and rock the ceiling would be worth it if possible. If it's just a 2 car garage, with a decent insulation you should be able to get by w/ a simple radiant heater.
Or at least be able to turn down that 35k unit so you don't need such a standoff distance.

It's a neat little place and serves our needs at the moment while we figure out where/how we want to set roots. On one hand the LL has given an open ticket to do whatever with reimbursement, but... the liability has me sitting on my hands except for landscaping.

I have one of those Reddy Heaters (or maybe some other brand) that I used to heat my shop before I put the wood stove in. Got the job done ok. It was working fine until it stopped working fine, but I can't remember what the problem was. Kerosene fueled, $20 if anybody wants it (and it probably has $10-15 worth of Kerosene in it...)

Ah, didn't catch that you were renting.
Something nice and portable then.
