I have a heatpump and it does well, but I have always wanted a fireplace and I have a big propane tank at my house. With ventless gas logs it's easy to install, but I want to integrate it. When I am using the gas logs I want that to be the primary source of heat.

My thoughts is to some how switch the heatpump fan to "on" when the gas logs are burning. That would then circulate the heat somewhat.

Is there a better way to duct a fireplace type propane heat? Is there an easy way to switch the heatpump fan? Any other thoughts?

When I was young my family heated our house for years w a good Insert woodstove w blower or 2 over the years, (wore one out!) even though we had a LNG heater/AC unit. Dad added a return vent, in the ceiling in the woodstove room and a blower and ductwork in the attic to blow the hot air to the back of the L shaped house to near the intake for the AC unit in the hall. w the central AC fan on a thermostat it worked pretty well to heat the whole house on all but the coldest days and nights.
