Does anyone know much about powering a small engine with propane? I am considering changing my generator over to propane as gas is getting too high to run my 20hp generator engine continously on the weekend when my family goes to the farm. Can I buy any regulator and diffuser and the engine will only take what it needs or will an oversize propane system flood the engine like an oversize carb will? Any insight will be appreciated. There are model specific conversion kits available for gasoline generators. I recommend using on of these kits for performance and reliability.

I haven't seen one for my generator yet. It's an old Kohler with a M20 engine. It runs at 1800 RPM and has electronic throttle control. I was hoping I would be able to use some easily findable parts to change it over. It's not critical but I thought it would be nice to bring up a $10.00 propane tank instead of a couple of 5 gallon jerry cans.

Call Carrie at gotpropan.com He is very knowledgable about propane set ups. I bought a kit from him to run on my 68 bronco. It runs flawlessly. He may sell kits for generators.

My model# is 5ckm and it is a Kohler. Thanks for the suggestions and the help.
