I purchased an 1985 Chevy C-60 (2-ton truck). 350 Small block Chevy, 5 speed, nothing exotic. It was a propane delivery truck for a local propane dealer. NOT the truck with the tank on the back, this truck has a flat bed and was used to deliver tanks. It will run off of propane or regular gas. Right now it is running off of propane. Simple set-up, hose to the top of the air-cleaner. Runs great, no problems at all. Now for the questions:

-Is there any interest in this set-up? It would be complete with a tank. The tank has to be atleast 50-75 gallon. The interested party could come here truck run on propane, and then remove entire system, so they got it all and knows how to put it back together.

-What is it worth?

Thanks in advance!!!

Not many put a tank that size on a rig, that being said someone might want it for a DD rig. Biggest issue is finding someone that will fill it. ( the whole road tax issue) What you are describing is a duel fuel set up, not one you find very often. I myself don't completely understand how they work. Ok I know the set up, but the fact that the two fuels burn different. More advance on the propane is necessary(at least it was on mine). but I guess you could make them both work good, if you were willing to adjust the timing when you switch from one to the other. Being able to remove the system from a running truck would be probably the best scenario for a used system. The difference in this and just a plain propane system is basically the filter cap where the propane is going into a carb, and a cut off of some type to cut the gasoline flow when running propane.
Hard to put a value on it. I would say most likely depends on the buyer.

Propane

Thanks Upnover!

I know very little about running a vehicle on propane. But if you just wanted the propane part, could you not remove it and just set it up as propane only? My intentions are to remove the propane set up and turn it back into a gas only. I thought this might be an economical way for someone to put their rig on propane? Any interest?

The reason I asked about a value, I would like to post it in the for sale section, but I have to put a price on it, and I do not know what it is worth?

Thanks again!

there are several different types of systems out there. The most popular is the Impco 425, Modle E and then the lock off. I figure that one has a electric lock off. Check it out and let us know what type system you have. And you know, the first thing they will ask is for pictures

is this system running an adapter on the top of the carb or is it a mixer with the line running to it? that will make a difference too. you can set a truck up with an adapter and still use the carb for your air adjustment for about 200 bucks with shutoffs and everything. That is what it cost me to do mine. i know someone who would want this but they live in cincinatti pm me with a price when you decide i'm sure he would not want the tank

If that tank is that big, some one will want it to make themselves a filling unit and mount it on their trailer.

now there's an idea! When we bought our house, the PO left a Big Pane tank out back. not the house supply type, I'm talking about 4" tall Gas grill looking tank. I of course have beeneye balling it, wondering what I could do with it, or what it's worth. Or just to fill it up and have an 8 year supply of Pane for my Gas Grill. :D

Brent to use a tank like that to fill with, you have to turn it upside down, so you can get liquid propane out of it.
The downside is that that tank holds about the same as a forklift type tank and wouldn't make much sense. But someone with a shop heater might want/need it

If you open the release valve slightly while filling, it will flow from the trailer tank (under pressure) to the tank you're filling (lower pressure).

When the velve starts letting out liquid propane, you're full. It'll waste a little and will be slower than at the filling station, but it works.

I recommend STRONGLY to do your homework before you go assemblin fittings, and carry a portable grounding stake with leads to your trailer, the tank, and a lead with a clip to attach to the tank you're filling.. drive the stake home first, connect everything together second, THEN hook up the hose.

Actually Rich.. First I'd need to set the CJ up for LP... get a trailer, get something to tow it with, get some time to wheel.... :shaking:
but if anyone is interested, I do have that tank and will sell it. :D

That is good to know. I guess I need to find a large tank for the front of my trailer. I wonder what amount I can carry before I have to have a fuel license? I believe with gas it is <500 gallons but I could be wrong.

Umm, propane isn't light.. how heavy duty is your tow rig to handle that much weight up front? Just a thought..

I surely don't plan on carrying that much. I would like to be able to put enough to refill all my tanks on the front of the trailer. It handled my jeep with a pair of tons on the front of the trailer so I bet I could get away with a 80 gallon tank no problem.
