Why do I need a vacuum lockoff on a propane kit? I know that it only allows liquid to flow into the mixer if it is supplied with vacuum. I assume that's a safety thing somehow, but not sure how that really makes it safer and if it's really needed.

it is basically a shutoff so that you do not have high pressure propane leaking into the air, waiting to start a fire... you could also use an electric lockout.

It is a safty thing. If the engine isn't making vacum it shuts the gas off. If you use an electric lock off you need a vacum switch or revolutionary switch so gas will be shut off if the engine ism running.

If the engine is not turning then there is no fuel entering or leaking. I thought about a low or no oil pressure switch to also stop fuel, but that would require over ride for starting.
