Proper way to dispose of old ammo??

Is there actually a proper or safe way to dispose of old ammo?
I have two boxes of old paper shotgun shells that I need to get rid of. Normally in this situation I would just shoot them up, but they are cracking the brass at the bottom and they smoke like hell.
I have never put any thought into it until now.

I would think a bucket of water for a couple days would render them useless if their paper.

They may be collectors items and worth a few bucks. Might be worth looking into.

Most gun shops, all firing ranges, and of course any police dept. will take them. Heard there's some sort of a tool to do this that isn't very expensive that most gun shops have?

There was an old metal can fire put at the camp my dad and his buddies use to go to down in Florida. It had holes all in the side of it from this kinda if fun. It's a wonder I was ever conceived.

Well as tempting as the fire or the escalator idea sounds. I think ill just take them up to the gun shop and see if anyone wants them first.

Go talk to the folks out at Grashal. I'm sure they can get rid of it for you. The owner is actually a finance professor (damn good one) at ASU.
