PSA for dealing with stray cats

Dang I'm boring, a shot gun works at any angle or speed.

I see what you did there

I can't count or remember all the peeps I've met/known that have horror stories about expandable broad heads. A good friend got them when they were first made and I asked him why try to fix something that ain't broke? and he laughed. He was not laughing when he went all the way to Ohio to hunt w his new heads. He had a 180/190 class buck come trotting down a logging road. He stopped him broadside and released. The head opened w the shot, "screamed like a bottle rocket " his words, and corkscrewed towards the buck that was gone before the arrow got near it. He said he heard that big old buck running away for about 5 mins. Many stories of hit deer never found because of hitting bone w shallow penetration, or no pass through/blood trails w a good shot and many stories of deer found days later after days of looking and spoiled meat. I don't know why they are still popular when the old school fixed heads work fine.

I don't want to kill them ...... that would be psychopathic .... I'm not really sure , but I don't think I'm a psychopath.

I just want to discourage them from frequenting my property.

I have a cat thanks to my girlfriend, I’m an animal lover but also a hunter. An outside cat is estimated to kill 15,000 or more native animals (chipmunks, birds ) in its life. I spent close to a year trapping cats that my parents neighbors just let loose when they decided to move back to Florida.

Good. I'm curious as to how everyone above would feel if I sat at the end of their street waiting for an opportunity to kill their dogs in the same manner. I'm no psychopath either, but unjustified killing of any animal is sickening, and I challenge anyone with that mindset to show up at my house and discuss it in person.

My perspective.
I truly don't go around killing critters, I don't even hunt anymore. But cats and dogs fit the same catagory of a nuisance when the following fits...

I can't get near it to catch. "Wild"

It eats when my pets can't. See next post.

It fights with or dominates my pets on my property.

Lastly the paddy wagon for pets fails to get the job done.

What really makes this relevant is all our 6 pets where strays. Two were flea ridden and emancipated. Best dogs I've ever been around.

I want let a two legged being do any of this to me and mine. So I want flench to restrict a critter from doing the same. "Tame or Wild".

As said, best to just live trap and take to the animal shelter or just 15miles away depending on if ferral or not.

If truly feral dog or cat that’s the end of it they will be taken care of fast, you ever see what a pack of feral dogs will do to goats or sheep? I have it’s not good.
I have quail and pigeons at my house for dog training. Their pen is 4’ off the ground with a live trap below it. If I catch a cat and I know it’s a neighbors I take it back and let them know where I caught it and next time it will go to the pound.
I don’t want someone to shoot my dogs so their animals will get the same respect unless it’s going after me or my dogs.

Yeah, I just realized my post came out harsh, once I reread it. Strawman thing.
I've sat in my backyard for days wondering what to do about squirrels. Dogs and cats keep to themselves around where I am.

Air soft or paintball is what I use. Usually good out to 100 yards, and my brothers and I used to play ‘tag’ with those...so figure it’s animal safe. Majority of the time though, unless the animal is repeat offender or one I don’t recognize, they get a free pass.

Hmm my approach is totally different...I set out lots of food, give them a name, & try like hell to pet them :D

Post your address .... I'll load the local strays up in my zook and drive by ......

A friend of mine had the pleasure of a crazy cat lady dumping boxes of kittens out at an old, isolated abandoned house about 200 yrds off the road about 1/4 or 1/2 mile from his place. He only found out after he started finding stray cats all over his property and wondered why. The cats were damaging his property, getting in/under his sheds and under his trailer trying to stay warm in the winter cold. They tore the insulation and the ducts under his trailer, and even got into his doggy door into his trailer. He shot them when he could and tried trapping them but it had little effect on the #s. His dogs were also attacked by some of the cats and one had to be taken to the vet with deep scratches to it's nose and eyes while inside his fenced in yard.He had an 8' fence around his property but the cats climbed over or dug under it to reach his property. He happened to go by the abandoned house while he was hunting one day and found piles cat food, the food bags and garbage bags tossed everywhere. There were about 50/75 cats/kittens living in and under the abandoned home and someone was obviously feeding them. He called the co. (chatham) and reported it. He was told they could not do anything about it unless they knew who was doing it. It obviously was not the owners, the land had been sold years ago and the owners were out of state. He posted signs @ the end of the driveway trying to stop the perp but he found more food there soon after. He knew his neighbors had nothing to do w it and they were having problems w the cats too. He thought about burning the old place down but the rural fire dept was less than a mile away and he did not want to get in trouble for burning a building. One day he and a friend went to the house and shot as many of them as they could though lots ran away only to return. Then one day he saw a minivan pull down the driveway and he blocked the path w his truck and walked up and found the crazy cat lady feeding them. He spoke to her and got her license plate and called the co. again. They had a hearing w him and the ccl and unbelievable the co. basically did nothing but tell her not to dump any more cats or trespass on that property. Of course the ccl went right back there and nothing changed...........until he talked to his friends and the cat shooting turned into a social event w several or more going there every weekend until the cats were no more. I never got to participate but I wanted too. I remember when he first told me about his cat problem. I drove there to see him and saw 3 or 4 cats run into the pipe under his driveway when I pulled up. The pipe was about 40' long, he was going to build another shelter for his boat and trucks just off the row. As we talked I noticed a rusty old 12 g. single shot leaning against a pole under his shelter w no walls yet. I asked why he had the gun sitting there and he said for them damn feral cats. I told him I saw some run into the pipe when I pulled up. He grabbed the gun and said watch this. He walked to the road, jumped down in the ditch, stuck the barrel into pipe and fired a load of bird shot. 5 or 6 cats came flying out of the other end of the pipe like they were shot out of canon and streaked off up the ditch and into the woods.

Yeah they were certainly emancipated from their prior humans.. and emaciated (skinnied out). Lol.. I'm sorry I had to. Probably autospell got you.
No sometimes my spelling is so bad it doesn't know what I am typing. Others it is man size fingers on a phone. I usually proof read, I bet if the board tracks edits i'd be the highest for correcting mess.

Edit...2 for this post!
