Pulling a Transmission

Hey fellas...the C6 in my Bronco officially crapped out, but I have one in waiting to go in. I don't have the transmission cradle adapter, but I can pick one up...unless you guys have any other suggestions. But my next question is, I've never dropped a tranny out of a taller rig without shop access...and I don't have a floor jack that can reach the necessary height, even with the tires aired down. I suppose I could take the tires off and set the rig on jack stands at all 4 corners, but are there any other suggestions to drop a transmission with a tall rig?

2 people can bring a C6 down balanced on just a regular jack on a piece of plywood. Use wood blocks in between to fill the gap. Be sure to drop pan and remove fluid or all the fluid will pour from the tail if tilted the slightest. Not fun being the guy at the tail when that happens.
If by yourself, get you a tranny jack.:flipoff2:

Can also put jack up on blocks. Done that a time or 2 as well.

Do you have an engine hoist? Take the shifter access panel lose from the floor board stick the hoist threw the door and strap the tranny to the hoist to let it down to where the floor jack can reach.

You could also try a 2xwhatever and a small tire on top of that with someone helping. Works for me on a tall rig.
drill a hole in the saddle of your floor jack, and bolt a rim to it, it works great (only if it will reach)

Great idea fellas...thanks for the suggestions. Gonna get on it this weekend. Driving to work today, 3rd gear didn't wanna show up.

That's good news, and thanks for the tips.

I don't have one currently, but I have access to one. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just lay on your back, have your buddy unbolt it, and pretend you are bench pressing...Assuming the transfer case has been removed. I have done th350s like this in camaros, and stuff like that, but never tried in a taller rig.

Alex at carolina truggies put a transmission in a truck I had like this, then put the transfer case on second. He had a few guys helping him out though

if you have a welder grab some angle and fab a u shaped thing to go on the [wide] floor jack that holds 4x4/6x6/8x8.. works pretty well..

looks like
-------
| (|)
-------

with | being cross pieces and (|) being the jack foot under the center cross

good idea till after you've had your third surgery and still told you will just have to live with the pain. dude do it safely. and get help or someone who has the right equipment. I used to do things this way now I have 5 disc in my back fused together. "save your back"

Thanks fellas...I ended up doing it at my buddies shop...still no trans jack, but ratchet straps galore. Ended up pulling it down, inside looked impeccable...and my buddy had his trans guy there by coincidence, so the trans guy took a look made a few adjustments...it brought back reverse, 1-2 and 2-3...but there was still some slop in 2-3. He believes the remaining issue is in the valve body and told me to grab a shift kit. I figured for $50, it was worth it...and I can always swap the other transmission in if the kit doesn't work. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.

those c6s are fawkin heavy!

Only if you're a sissy...haha. No kidding, I really don't wanna have to do it again. BTW...you still have any parts left???? I could be looking at needing a 205...I should only need to swap yokes if you still have yours.

yeah, ive still got everything. including the headliner trim youve been asking about.
