ok i have a edelbrock built q-jet. it does pretty good up hill, but down hill its terrible. who has the know how to make it work better? yea i know i need propane or FI. but for now it will have to do.

While they are similar, they are not the same. Talking abut a Eldlebrock carb and a Rochester Quadrajet.
If you have a Edelbrock that is working good uphill, you have better than what mine did.
The best I have seen is a Quadra Jet, turned around backward, using early 90's Chevy Lumina throttle cable. Seems the float level high would work great uphill and down hill was good too.

You've answered your question as far as what you need. On a budget, a throttle body FI would be great, or a propane system. I ended up going propane and it was flawless.

CHip,
What I think he is talking about is the Edlebrock Q-Jet. Edelbrock makes an exact Q replacement. THe 1906 is as true to the original as possible. Like said, turn that beotch around and poor man's EFI...

Motorcraft 2bbl, turned backwards, E350 throttle cable, was actually better on my old 360 than injection was.

Not sure if you NEED a 4bbl or not, but dont overlook the simplicity of a Motorcraft 2bbl

Gettin ready to do the mc2100 on my yj. Thanks for the tip on turnin it backward.

i dont think a 2bbl will fly on my truck and tbi is out to because its not a stock motor, and it is a edelbrock replacement q-jet. if i turn it around would it not do bad going up hill then? if its running pig rich going down hill now... iam on the fence with propane because i do street drive it, dual fuel is only rated at 375hp, iam not saying i have 500hp but like i said its not stock. this motor ran 7.80 in a street car i had (1/8th mile) i dont street drive it often but i hate to pull of this fuel system...ugh! but i guess i could have worse problems in life lol

So i can turn my Roch Qjet on my 350 around and it will run better??? I think im not understanding this exactly??

Keeps them from loading up when pointed uphill. The only side effect is potential to load up downhill. But at least you can gear down to increase engine RPM to help with it.

Only thing I ever did to my q-jets was lower float to approx 2/3 level and extend vent tube with a loop. Ran at any angle I had guts enuff to try at. Given I was a 20 yr old newb back then.

my uphill is great, down hill is where the problem is. going to lower the floats this week. i have the truck torn apart again

One of the mechanics at our dealership has run Super Stock drag cars for years. (They have to run factory carbs). He is the best with a Quad I have ever seen. Pulling wheelies and slamming back down are a lot like 4 wheelin. I trust his work all the way to Baja Mexico and back.
