Question about bumpstop extentions

This may be really simple, but I'm askin it anyway.

On my LJ I installed an OME 2" lift that included bump stop extensions, which if I am guessing is to limit uptravel of the axle when flexing?

Is the main purpose of this to keep your tires out of your flares, or is it to prevent SOME OTHER damage, I'm not thinking of/don't know about?

Is it that if the one side goes WAY UP that means the other side must go WAY DOWN and THAT is where the trouble is?

I'm asking cause I have the flat fenders and loaded of clearance and my tires never come close to rubbing them, and was thinking I could get more flex, UNLESS this will cause problems I'm overlooking.

yep bump stops are just for that to limit travel i dont run them on my toyota but i plan on doing a set in the front just hit the u blots the other day!!

so I pull the extensions put the oems back where they were, I'll get more articulation?

i don't knwo much about your rig, but my bumpstops keep the tires from getting chewed on the body of the rig. the front ones also keep the hydro steering fittings out of the oil plan and the pinion on the front axle out of the exhaust. i had a bumpstop break on me several times and i have broken exhaust manifolds as a result of the exhaust/pinion contact.

best thing to do is get under the rig and look for areas of contact. or flex it out and see what's going to possibly contact what.

lastly, the fronts also keep me from over arching my front leaf springs.

you also need to consider the shocks you are using. You dont want them bottoming out, effectively acting like an expensive bumpstop.

Assuming leaf springs, and being a member of the "old school" crowd, it has always been my understanding that you never want to take leaf springs beyond straight, and that reverse arching will kill them quickly.

Always better to ask questions. I guess they are part of the lift kit for a reason.
