A few years ago back when I was in high school I had an 89 4runner that I absolutely loved. Thats how I got started wheeling and whatnot, but anyways, i blew the transmission and when replacing that i ended up with a spare transfer case. It's the one where the shifter stick comes straight up out of the t case and into the truck. Just recently i've seen some other 4runners but they seemed to have the shifter like my jeep does, the lever to just pull back and back some more. What transfer case do i have, where 4hi is a pull straight back, then over and forward for N and 4 low. I'm trying to get another 4runner, and i want to make sure i'm going to have the same one. I don't like the linkage on my jeep bc it's always needing adjusting.

Totally different cases between the jeep and the 4runner. Your jeep probably has an NP231 and the 4runner a forward shift case( I think ). I believe all 2cnd gen toyotas are forward shift.

yeh i've got a 231 in the jeep, i just wanted to make sure that I know which tcase for the yota i have.

case

All the Yota cases are the same untill you get into the V6 models. Some are top shift, some are forward shift, same case, and will work either way.
