Hey guys i bought a 93 XJ a few months ago and at The Farms this weekend i broke my factory yolk and u joint i got lucky and found a guy out there that had another factory yolk and drove my buddies car to the advance auto and got a hd u joint but since it broke i know where my weak point is what would yall suggest so this doesnt happen again do they make hd yolks and what company should i get it from or do you know anyone who makes these?

Thanks
Jordan

First start by getting rid of the parts store u-joint and get a factory Spicer joint. Then take those half moon clamp things and toss them out through the woods and get some u-bolts, cause that's what usually goes first. Then you should be good to go.(for a while anyway)

buy a CTM u joint :)

yoke is a car part; yolk is an egg part

front or rear driveshaft? If its the rear pinion yoke, could you possibly have some axlewrap going on? How do your rear leafs look?

Or maybe you just hit it on a rock, in which case that would just be unlucky (or bad driving), and not necessarily your weak spot.

To strengthen it up you could get a yoke with U-bolts instead of the straps. I bet our local vendors could get them, something like this

Glad it worked out for ya.

X2 on the spicer joint, put a parts store joint in when I was in a bind one weekend, it looked like crap and had play in it 2 weeks later when it was getting replaced.

Is it an 8.25? As has been said, get rid of the straps and go with u bolts. You can drill out the yoke and use ubolts if it's an 8.25 at least. Then add an anti wrap bar. Parts store u-joints suck, but that's not what caused the break most likely, it was the straps letting go.

I vote it was this.

1stgenxxx- those are nice as hell but i have factory 35 axles

RenegadeT- it was the rear and it was concrete under the dirt from people spinning trying to get up the embankment and lack of grease in the splines and the straps snapped along with the u joint broke in half

xj90- great show this weekend had a blast and im not sure if you gave it to me or not but thank you to who ever did saved me alot of money i dont want it to be a forever fix id like to upgrade the axles one of these days but moneys tight

Thanks for all the input guys and i will order the yoke with the u bolts this week hopefully see you guys out on the trail soon
