I will throw in a couple pictures below, but we bought 3.5 acres in Kernersville that I will be building a house on in the next few years.
The cleared out area that is pictured, is where the perk tests were done / and approved for my septic lines, etc.
This area will be to the right side of my house (will be across a small gully / still woods there now) but this area will eventually be my "right lawn" / that is my long term goal/vision.
I am wanting to go ahead and put down some "grass" to start growing now / tis a muddy field at the moment since they took out the trees there last fall.
We are thinking about a fescue of some sort...or my dad mentioned pasture grass to me? Also considered "winter wheat" and I am pretty wide open here.
I want it to grow good / look nice / and since we have deer that come thru quite a bit / wouldn't mind it being a good food source for them too & other critters.
I am not a lawn perfectionist...the main lawn around the house will either be across the gully OR we may end up putting in some pipe/drainoff and then cover the gully!?
SO that is question #1 - suggestion on what to plant / when / do I need to do soil tests now? (This was covered with pine trees until last fall / for last 30 years) Assume that I need to put down lime and...?
Question #2.. we have a nice creek running along the back, some thickets (grapevine I am told) that I am leaving alone for the deer to sleep in, etc. But outside of that...I am wanting to clean up and turn the 3.5 acres into my own "park", little walking pathes, bridges, etc.
So I will be keeping the brush down and wondered what to plant back there under all those trees...? Probably would not get mowed or certainly not very often. Don't want it to get "snaky" ....
Creek bed is a good 3-6' drop down from the rest of the land, not sure if that matters for the "snake" issue or not.. but not at all swampy.
FINAL question / thought... I have 1 side that runs along I-40, this is probably 300' or more from my house site. I want to plant noise barrier stuff...and instead of the usual leland cypress I am really thinking of planting bamboo?? I really don't care if it takes over that corner of the property...and this is like a 4-500' property line along the interstate (and their fence, etc)
Was thinking of taking the plow or whatever and plowing up along that fence line really good / to help bamboo grow or other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!
