I finally bit the bullet and purchased an ac/dc tig welder. I know there have been some changes since I last tig welded in 1984 college welding class. Which do you prefer? Hold your torch in your stong hand and fill rod with the week hand or hold the torch in your week hand and fill rod with your strong hand?

I tig with the torch in my left hand and filler in my right. I write left handed as well so it's almost a natural position but most everything else I do is right handed and I consider it my stronger hand.....

When I tig I switch depending on position but mostly I have the torch in my left hand and filler in my right. I'm right handed with everything. Just keep steady with my left and dip with the right.

I hold the torch with my left hand and dip with the right. I write left handed so its more comfortable but i try to switch it up and torch with my right hand

Whatever is comfortable for you, but the torch requires a lot more control than the filler rod and since unlike apparently half the board--I'm right handed--I hold the torch with my right hand. The real trick is finding a way to steady both hands and still be able to move them.

I use both hands to keep the torch steady, and feed the filler rod with my mouth until it gets too hot. The hard part is getting enough filler, getting it through the hole in my helmet, and not stabbing myself in the throat.
