If my shoulders sit higher than the seat back and way higher than the top hole in the seat, is it ok for me to run the shoulder harnesses over the top of the seat? I haven't welded in the tube for the shoulder harnesses yet.

I think it would be ok as long as you had them fixed with tabs and not just looped around a bar where they could slide off your shoulders

The height of the harness attachment to the harness bar with respect to your shoulder height is very important. There are very specific guidelines to follow for proper safety with harness geometry, and a lot of people don't know or follow them properly. That's what you really need to research to make sure you don't crush your spine in an impact situation. Google "race harness mounting angle" or something similar.

You should really get a seat that fits you properly for your height as well.

Don't mess around with safety. It's the last place you want to cut corners or save money on...

The key, of course , is to have shoulder harnesses pulling "back" on your shoulders and never "down".

I've never seen a set off suspension seats where the through seat belt holes would work for anyone even 6' much less taller.

I know " some" seat manufacturers used to make belt keepers on the top of the seat shpoulkder area just for this reason.

As long as the belts keep you in the seat while letting your body and the seat move independently*** it will work.

The other theory is to completely find the body to the seat and move as 1 structure, but never do this with suspension seats.
In theory this style works and the vehicle suspension absorbs all the impact, in application it hurts like a mofo in an off-road vehicle.

Sell the seats and buy tall versions.

They say once you go Ultras, you never go back. Even a skinnier bloke like myself prefer them over the standards. I'm 5,10 and the harness hole on my SSs I thought to be to low.

My shoulder harnesses have always been over the top for this reason.

What's important is proper mounting height of the shoulder straps in reference to your shoulder height. So that you don't have spinal compression in a roll, and also don't move vertically towards the roof in the same situation.

There is tons of info on the Web about the proper mounting.

In short, yes. Since 08, I've had my shoulder straps over the top of my corbeaus. Only way I could get things to be in proper location. I'm 6' in a cramped yj.

Thanks everyone. @Mac5005 That's pretty much my situation. If I go through the seat it will be at the maximum acceptable angle and not very comfortable. If I go over the seat I can get just right and not have to buy turtlenecks.

I have the Baja XPs and they are perfect for me, I'm 6'1 or so. The seat backs are much taller than the Ultras and the belt holes are higher too.

I love mine! I have been in seats that cost twice the price that were half as good. I'm 6' 235lb and my wife is 5.9 150lb and we're both comfortable and the belts pull straight back on us.
