Question to JK owners

Not really a "tech" question, but here goes anyway. Recently got a 2011 2 door soft top JK for my wife. The doors are full steel doors. The top doesn't leak at all from what we can tell. But, after it has been raining, if you open either door, water will pour down from the door surround right into the floorboard and sometimes even the seat. It seems to be pooling on top of the door surround and then flows out when you open the door. Is this normal???? I wouldn't think so, but before I spend time to take it in I figured I would ask here. Thanks.

Mine 08 does the same thing. You open the drivers door and instantly get a stream on water coming off of the top that pours right onto the trim of the door opening.

Yep my 08 does the same... I just laugh every time it happens now.

Well dang, you would think they could do something to stop that from happening. From the responses, it seems like it's not a new issue. Wife's not going to be real happy when I fill her in on this one. Thanks all.

Same here on 07 model.
I've got use to it and try to park on a slope with the tailgate toward the bottom of the slope.
I looked few times and to me it is caused by the design of the rubber gasket, for some reason that I don't understand, right before it meets the windshield there is a connection between the outside wall of the gasket allowing water to pool. I have been tempted to cut it off but I am scared that it will make something else worst; after all mine is not leaking now.

Go to lowes and by some self adhesive gasket for exterior doors. Add a strip of it at the top of the A pillar and then reattach the top.

Chrysler made a running change in 2009 that if you look on the door surround the older ones had no lip it was straight off the top straight down and customers complained about getting wet everytime they opend the doors. So on the newer models the surround has a lip that keeps most of the water off, but it's a small lip so it's only gonna hold so much. If it's a true leak there are several different recalls and bulletines. Does it drip on both sides or 1 side ???

Look at page 97 of 144 dealing with soft tops. In this article, it does not address the issue directly but in figures 1 and 2, you will see the areas you need to address. Run the additional foam across the A pillar to the header. You basically are trying to stop the water from the header from filling the door surround. You may need to try several times to get it right but that should fix 90% of the problem. There was a post somewhere on jkowners that had pictures and a write up addressing this issue but I can not find it. Hope you get it fixed.

Be careful adding to the door weatherstrip surfaces, chrysler " fattened up " the seals to help them mate to body if you get to much build up you may do more to hurt than help.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to check this out and see what it's all about.
