two questions about my 98 cherokee if someone can give me some info.
1. had a new engine (with tops 15,000 miles on it, was in my other 98 that rolled) put in as well as trans and transfer case, work was done by a shop, today it threw a check engine light, i checked for leaks, saw none, the previous owner did mention something about the o2 sensor being bad, any ideas on what it might be?

2.Was filling gas the day i picked it up from the shop i went four clicks over the full level, turned my back and heard this muffled noise like water spiulling, realized that the tank was leaking gas from the top back section, any ideas what this might be?

PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!!!

Take it to AutoZone and have the scan the check engine light. That will tell you what that is. As for the fuel leak, sounds like a fuel line or the a loose fuel pump/housing ring or gasket. Sucks though as you have to drop the tank to check it on the new models.

update took it back to the shop they found the check engine light to be a minor leak (not oil or any important fluid, just like an ac air leak) as for gas, i will have to drop it myself and check taht out, im pretty sure its the gasket(seal) on the fuel pump on top of the tank, b/c thats where the excess that i filled came from (i went four clicks over full).
thanks for the help 89wrangler

by "four clicks over full" do you mean you kept pumping after the fuel pump automatically shut off?

That could fawk the evap system.

I wouldnt use that link as the ultimate authority, but it gives you a starting place to learn why not to do that.

Your evap system could be full of fuel from over filling and thats why your "leaking" fuel.

good info

tahts all good info but what happened to me is not that, i filled it to full it stopped and clicked i decided that since this was its first time on the road in a few monthes that i would go a little over so i went over four clicks. then i turned to my dad and started talking to him, while talkin i heard a sound like muffled water hiting the ground. i turned baqck to see the four clicks i went over pouring onto the ground, i looked and saw that it was originating off the top of the tank (thats why i think its the fuel pump gasket) it only leaks if you fill it up over a full tank, it doesn't leak when i drive. anybody who has done gas tank work able to thelp me out?

Probably a leaky seal at the top of the tank. Mine leaked to begin with. When I changed the whole pump, I tightened the piss out of the ring and it's not leaked since.
