just bought a used 2008 durmax diesel. fully loaded lbz, 73,000k miles. i noticed the oil pressure guage is staying around 20 psi. ive checked a couple of forums and it seems to be par for the course for them to show low oil pressure. just hoping someone here can help ease my mind on this issue. i purchased the truck last night and tonight its back at the dealer to get looked at in the morning. it also had a edge programmer on it, just need some help to know if i should not worry or back out of the deal first thing in the morning???? please help!!!!!

the duramax engines are designed around oil flow volume rather than oil pressure - helps in keeping oil temps down between 20-30 psi at hot idle is fairly typical

@ 2000 rpm it should be 50-60psi-ish

that being said, those gauges are known for showing 10-15psi lower than actual pressure

quick way to find out is to hook it up to a scanner and find out what it's picking up

Let me see if I got this right...

I just bought a chevy and I'm worried it might be a piece of junk. Should I return it?

Umm... yes - go buy a Ford.

And your buggy has what kind of motor/tranny in it????? :smokin:

Sounds like we need a pull off! Drop the rag and let the chips fall where they land. To be Honest, none of them are perfect but I do believe the Fords are the biggest PO:poop: warranty eaters out there. Its pretty bad when Ford and Navistar are threating to sue each other over thier joint venture engine.

The law suit was settled over a year ago.

What he said. Most reliable/sold diesel made. More 7.3's were made than Duramax (Isuzu:rolleyes:) & Dodge (Cummins) put together. 6.0 & 6.4 were jokes, not sure about new 6.7 Scorpion.

thanks guys for all the help. i backed out of it this morning and have them currently looking for anther chevy or hopefully a cummin's. while ive got all the diesel's attention, any input on what cummins i should get? 5.9 or 6.7? and im assuming everyone would recommend going with a straight drive? thanks guys for all the help

05-06 will get the best fuel mileage. 07 has all that emissions crap.

i have

an 02 duramax and a cummins and i love different things about both trucks but by far the duramax is a far cry from the 6.5 ....but my duramax has 25 psi hot idle and has 40-50 psi driving and dose fine ..just my 2 cents
