Quick XJ question

Been looking for an XJ for a cheap DD/weekend wheeler however it seems like most that I find in my price range are 88-90 models. Are the older XJ's with the Renix injection a serious no-no or are they ok? I know most people on here say get a 91-newer but I'm not having any luck finding a decent one in my price range.

Any important things to look for on the Renix XJ's? Or on XJ's in general? Hopefully going to look at a couple this weekend if I can arrange it. Thanks.
 
the Renix engines are just fine, just not as sophisticated as the HO ones. If you are only interested in a 91 and up just keep looking. they are out there. Whats your price range?
 
Budget is around $1000. The year doesn't really matter to me, if the Renix engines are ok I'll get a 88-90. I've never had an XJ so I was just wanting some advice. Planning on a 2-3" budget lift and some 31's.
