I have an '00 4runner limited and my radio doesn't turn off when I take the key out. The clock doesn't turn off either. I can turn the radio off manually but something still drains my battery. Anyone know what this might mean? I wouldn't suspect that it's a fuse (plus I've already checked them).. because then it probably wouldn't work at all.

Its a stock radio. It does have subwoofers, but I've had them for about 2 years now and no issues up until last week.

Unhook radio and check for charge again. If still drain, then it's probably switch. Actually a good thing if you ask me? ALL of my vehicles get the radio wired hot with toggle so I can listen without ignition on and it won't run the battery down.
If it turns out to be the radio, I'd just wire in a toggle and be done...

do you have a amp pushing your subs? your radio's remote wire turns your amp on.turn your key off and check to see if amp stays on, there should be a light. this will definately drain your battery.try to reset your radio and see what happens. since its factory and doesnt have a reset button unplug positive side of battery and reconnect. its worth a try. if nothing else pull your radio out check your plug and make sure there no wires melted togather

if you havent done any custom wiring, my money is on a bad ignition switch.

the acc and on positions have shorted together. battery drains because not only radio but also every other accy keeps power on when key if off (fuel pump, lights, etc.)

Thanks guys. It's in a remote parking lot right now, but I'll check it when I get the chance.

Do these trucks have RAP? Retained accesory power? Is it supposed to stay on till you open the door like new GM cars? If so could be something up with that circuit. If not, does your 12 outlet stay on? It will be acc power just like the radio. Prolly best to just pull it out and ck to see if power is still on the acc wire. Should be a thin grey wire in the harness.
