Got a friend looking for a CNC water jet. Have stainless plate & DXF. Any recommendations?

It needs to be clean finish, that's all. They started out looking for CNC plasma... which would be all right, but not as clean. Laser would be all right, but not sure about wire EDM. I don't know what the cuts look like... but I imagine it's elaborate, with a lot of closed loops and stuff.

Wire EDM will be the most accurate but also likely the most expensive. If plasma's good enough, laser or EDM will be good too. I know plenty of people around here that can do it right and cheap if he wants to get it shipped to him...

There is a waterjet here in Greenville that does decent work. He can fine tune it for an edge quality that is what you are looking for. However, he is sometimes a PITA to deal with...

If you want a good edge quality, laser would be good and the most affordable. How thick is the material? What kind of material? How elaborate? plasma and laser will warp thin metal if there are a lot of holes, etc. What size?

a CNC plasma can have some fantastic quality if the operator really knows what they are doing. I've seen some parts from a high dollar CNC plasma look really bad compared to another much cheaper one. Its all in the operator and how detail-oriented they are...

If I were to suggest an operator that is above the norm for a CNC plasma (and has cuts and quality to prove it), and your friend is OK with a plasma, I'd say call Scott at MudPro. Much of his cuts resemble that of a laser to the untrained eye...

This is the truth. Scott cuts all my stuff, most of my friends thing the stuff is laser cut.
