I'm looking to add a ram to my steering but I wanted to bounce some ideas off you guys since y'all are better fabricators than I.

I've thought about making a bracket that bolt to a few cover bolts and building a skid for it or mounting it to a draglink hole midline of the axle tub and build a skid around it.

Or I feel I could actually mount it to my axle side track bar mount (it's beefy) and to the tie rod.

Opinions welcome. I've thought about going full hydro with a double ended ram but I do drive it a lot.

Hydro assist is fine as long as you keep it to a smaller size that with match well with your pump, and add a large cooler.

Just keep in mind that it won't steer like full hydro, but will keep you from destroying other parts that the power with full hydro will be tough on.

Is there room to fit it between tie rod and trac bar?

Without seeing it, my first guess would be try to mount it on same bolt as trac bar, with other end near the diff cover.

Second guess would be mount to diff cover like you suggested and then other end mounted to tie rod.

Third option would be below tie rod and have a bracket more on the front of the housing, or off diff cover again. This would probably need a skid plate to protect it

Yeah plan is a 1.625" ram from PSC with a 6.75" stroke. I'm gonna drill and tap my own box and run a cooler too. Nah not much room to work with between track bar bracket and tie rod. It would have to mount under Bc my jeep is fairly low to be on 38 TSL/SX

Have you looked at surplus center for rams, they used to be $86-94

You can get a refurbished one from PSC for $80-100

good news is I do have access to a CNC plasma table and a CNC press break. So when I get an idea Ill draw it up on solidworks and then do an autoCAD 2d drawing for the CNC stuff. school is going to be a little fun this semester, lol. Now if I could only find some prints for a 241 range box Id build a doubler.

Here's a tip for drawing up cad to be bent and folded.

Put a small V on the outer edge where you want to bend the part.

Makes it super easy to line up in the brake. Tighten the top die on it, then run the back gauge up to the part. And record the distance.

Also serves to stress relieve the edge.

Sweet thanks for the tip dude

Similar to this but since your tie rod is higher, the ram would be underneath. X2 on the skid idea.

As a note keep all mounting points in the same plane vertical and horizontally. If you don't it will roll on an axis. This will effectively force your TRE's to become stops for this rolling force. In a single ended ram this really doesn't end well. In a hydro assist it will at the least put a great deal of unwanted stress on the geometry.

Screw it, I priced shafts and gears and just parts is $2700 with some decent gears not even Yukon ones. So I'm on the hunt for an 05-up super duty and I'll just 4 link the front and go full hydro. 38.5s will go on my k5 and I'll get some 42s for the jeep.
