Ram vs. GMC (or Chevy....)

I have a 15 gmc, 5.3, 3.43. I've had it just over a year and 20k miles. Absolutely love it. My only complaint is the trans hunts for gears if you're being easy on it. If you put your foot in it, it downshifts and goes. 2016 has available 8 speed, but that might make the searching worse.

I have a friend with a 14 Ram and he loves it, so my input doesn't help your decision in any way. You're welcome.

...you do know they're programmed to do that...

Yes, they're programmed to get the absolute best mileage possible. That doesn't change the fact that it's annoying and my only complaint...

If I keep the truck long past warranty, that will get resolved.

I used to build the 6Lxx series of transmissions, and as such, I also know that when a major manufacturer debuts a 100% new components or platform....you wait a minimum 3-years if you don't want issues.....so GM's 8 speed is out of the question.

If I could get a 6.2l, max towing package in a reg. cab, std. bed.....this wouldn't be an issue!

The Ram 8 Speed is a ZF and has been around for about a decade, they call it a torque-flight, but that is just marketing. I have heard a lot of love on both sides of the issue, at this point in both the platform life-spans, I think I am going to be happy either way. I am leaning toward the Ram....the 8 Speed is silky, and doesn't spend much time hunting with the 3.92's.....I am also a bit hesitant of direct injection gas motors, while I don't like the variable displacement systems, everyone is putting those on the V8's....and the Ram version seems to have been around the longest, and it is also easily turned off buy shifting the trans. to "manual" mode.

Just bought a used 2015 GMC with under 5k on it. Drives great, runs great so far. Has 3.08 gears. Wish it had 3.42's, but it won't be that big a deal and it runs fine. It's a damn truck not a race car. 5.3 liter, 6 speed.

I just don't like the way the Rams look. Never have. They are a lot nicer than they used to be, I'll give them that, but they aren't up
to where GM and Ford are, IMO. I take apart interior parts on all makes all the time, so that's what I base my opinion on.

Did not buy a Ford (even though I can get employee pricing) because leg room (I'm 6'4") and no tilt wheel. Hate the models where the column just
drops up and down and the wheel doesn't tilt. Ford had that for a year or two, and went back to the drop column. Deal breaker for me. Driven many and hate that feature.

Thought I would update this, headed out Friday to pick-up my Ram 1500....the dealer got it down to a price I was happy with....now I just gotta drive 500 miles to go pick it up! It has absolutely every option I wanted (and then some) EXCEPT the bench seat, but the console is a pretty straight forward swap for a jump seat if I get the itch. Will post pics. when I get her home.....I would finally get a vehicle with AC just as fall hits!
