I did the same thing when I was 3. Mom thought I was napping when I snuck out and walked a mile to the 7-11, in light rain. Someone let me inside and I helped myself to all the candy I could grab ( a pile of candy ). I was sitting on the floor eating it when a nice policeman came and took me home to my very upset (napping) mom.

I did something similar when I was that age. I was born in an old log cabin in the middle of nowhere Yancey County. My mom went into the kitchen to get my sammich ready for lunch and in the course of a minute or two I disappeared. I walked off the porch and into the woods. She found me about an hour later sitting on a log over the creek tossing in pebbles. I wasn't alone though; our trusty cat, Captain Nemo was with me.

I bet more people our age than will ever be able to count have done something similar as kids. Now, it happens and all the sudden it's national headline news and the parent is suspected of something sinister and threatened with losing their kids over it. I do, however, have a house alarm system that I keep just so that I know if someone has gone out of the house. Most people get an alarm to keep people out, I have one to keep them in.
