I was just wanting some opinions on what you all do when loading an ATV or riding mower into the bed of your truck. Do you put the ramps on the tailgate, is it strong enough to support the weight when being loaded?

If you drive up really fast, the weight isn't on the tailgate for very long...

Just make sure your tailgate cables are in good condition. I've loaded atvs and mowers with ramps on a tailgate. Also seen utvs and golf carts loaded into truck beds via ramps on tailgates.

I helped the guy that bought my riding lawn mower load it without ramps. His tailgate and cables were in good enough shape, so we picked up the front tires and put them on the tailgate. Then moved to the back of the mower and picked up the back end and rolled the front tires up to where the back was on the tailgate. Rolled it forward the rest of the way and secured with a strap and closed tailgate. HOWEVER....

I have seen someone load an ATV using ramps into the bed and when they got the front wheels on the tailgate, something stuck on one of the wheels and it stopped. He kind of goosed the throttle enough to get the back tires to spit the ramps out from underneath the ATV causing it and the rider to fall off the back of the truck. I wish I caught it on tape.

^^this! Seen ramps slide out under quick throttle too. Always use safety chains if equipped with ramps. Also make sure the load rating is adequate enough for what your loading. I've banana shaped a brand new set of 1000lb ATV ramps.

ATV's are one thing, a Lawn mower is another. It doesn't matter the angle on a ATV but most mowers want to catch on the deck with ramps. Also, seeing how the tailgate is further from the back, unless level ground or truck is pointed upward(front higher elevation) then the tailgate will be higher off the ground. I used a set of 2X10's for years, with a plate bolted to the front to make a lip. It also had two nails(not sure of size) about 1/4" in diameter, that fit in to two drilled holes to keep it from shifting. I just added a tailgate guard when I sold them so holes were covered.

Use ratchet straps or something to tie the ramps to the bumper. Only takes a minute and will keep the ramps from spitting out.

Ramps and ratchet straps...Only time I have come close to spitting a ramp out the back was when I was being lazy and only laid the ramps up there. (Harlan, hungover and tired). Like others said just check your tailgate cables.

I never really liked loading with ramps into my truck
All it takes is one screw up and you r lucky if
U don't get hurt I have done it and had the ramps spit out caught
It just in time.

A small 6x 10 trailer is what I use.

Be careful Clay your not getting any younger

I'm with transman731. I always find a ditch to back in before I load or unload. Now, I just use a trailer for everything.

There's a LOT of the wrong way to load a bike/quad/tractor in those. My favorite is about 1:30 of that video. About nothing done right.
