I got dinged this morning for 74 in a 55MPH zone. We were heading down 220 to the zoo in Asheboro. This rookie cop stuck working Sunday morning parked himself in a surefire extra-bonus revenue generating spot; right after the speed limit drops from 65 to 55. Too bad this guy wasnt out fighting crime or doing something more useful than harassing me.

Around 3:30 on the ride home, there was Trooper Richardhead with some other poor sap pulled over in about the same place I got nailed. Its the end of the month, what a crooked racket they have going on, I guess he had to write enough tickets to cover his double OT.

Gotta call the lawyer Monday and see how screwed I am, what BS this is.

Trooper Richardhead

lol.
What an unusual name.

Reminds me of a good friend of mine from H.S. (and college) - name was Richard Hair. He was always very clear "it's Richard, no other nicknames."
(Snicker snicker)

BTW... annoying as it is and yes not a good use of tax money... but you WERE speeding...

He was driving. Some politician made it illegal. Some politician made it a law to take your tax money and buy a gun and a car and pay a guy to sit in it and charge you fines for getting where you need to go.

fixed it for you :flipoff2:

I'm not saying it dosn't suck but speed limits are there for a purpose, and it isn't JUST to generate revenue.

A better title for thsi thread should be high speed driving tax

The "tax" isn't random. It's only on people who break the law. What IS "random" is who gets caught and when.

He didn't cause an accident. How's that unsafe? He was doing fine until some cop shot him with radar and then pulled out into the highway and probably broke 100mph to catch up with him.

But as long as we accept these preventative laws - laws that outlaw something that might eventually lead to some circumstance that does harm to someone - then yeah those are the rules we play by.

Hey, I'm not here to say that the way this works is great or always warranted, trust me I've had my share of tickets and it sucked to get every one, and will for my future ones too.
All I'm saying is, it's a well established thing, if you speed, you run the chance of getting a speeding ticket. I understand being pissed - but be pissed at either (a) yourself for getting caught or better yet, doing it at all, or (b) the system in general and take it up w/ somebody at a level that can actually DO something to change it. Don't be pissed at the cop, he's just doin his job - which is to enforce the law.
Tony didn't say anything about the guy giving him lip or being a jerk or jackass, those would be warranted gripes.

The unfortunate fact it, we DO need to have speed limits, because unfortunately many peple in our society are idiots and we have to protect ourselves from them. Since we need limits, we also need them to be enforced, otherwise they are pointless.

Tony - you'll want to find out if the county allows "improper equipment" plea bargains for violations > 15 over. I know that Forsyth now dosn't (guess how I know this?)....

my girlfriend got pulled at the exact same spot on her way to the Zoo, cept she was 71 in a 55 right where it changed from 65-55, of course she pulled the sob story and got out of it with a warning though

this guy pulls the family over going to the Zoo (state owned) in a speedtrap on Sunday. Probably while he is lecturing about driving is not a right and speed limits. He goes and gets in his lil car and feels good because he probably saved a life. BullS$$t...the cop should get violated beside the road in his little hiding spot

I was a Firefighter/EMT forr ten yrs and I know what kills on the highway, this is not it. This is a lil cash cow and it makes me mad.

Was it a "rookie cop" or "Trooper Richardhead"?

I assume you got the ticket as you came into Asheboro, didn't you see the 55 MPH signs with the bright orange stripes? I don't see how anyone would claim that area is a speed trap with as well as it is marked.

As you enter the Asheboro area from the north or the south on Hwy 220 the speed reduces to 55 MPH. The "REDUCE SPEED AHEAD" signs are posted well in advance of the 55 MPH zone. The 55 MPH signs as you enter the 55 MPH zone have bright orange stripes at the top and bottom of the 55 MPH signs. Most of the troopers around here will tell you that those signs and bright orange stripes were your warning.

Good luck with the ticket.

???

This thread title needs help.

Random ??? I was going to argue against this word but now that I think about it, it was a random event. However, by driving almost 20mph over THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT, you greatly increased your odds of getting stopped.

Use Tax ??? Not at all. You paid your highway usage tax when you purchased fuel for your vehicle. This is a penalty for not paying attention to your driving.

Bottom line, you were traveling 9 MPH over what you believed the legal limit was. I don't see how you defend yourself. To then start slamming the police officer? He's just doing his job and if you don't want speeding tickets, don't speed. If you don't want to be in the dark about speed limit changes, pay attention to the signs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm some sort of angel. I break the speed limit pretty regularly but if I get stopped, I'm not going to whine or hate the cop.

Makes it sound like a Hazzard County speed trap complete with changing signs and Roscoe on duty.

Dont break the law and there is no problem. Or rent a big ass fucking billboard ner the "hiding spot" that says" Pay attention to speed change, cops probaly close by" You should feel better then.

Hmm, I went through there yesterday, twice. I hardly ever go through there so I don't really know the roads. I got through without any tickets, prob. because I was going less than 74 in a 55 ...

or maybe you were the bait to keep him occupied so I could sneak through without incident. Thanks :flipoff2:

I really do think this is a good idea. I might have to try it some day.

this guy pulls the family over going to the Zoo ...

yeah... I'm sure the cop knew, when he pulled T over, that he had his family in the car and they were on their way to the zoo. Good thing all cops have perfect X-ray vision and clarovoyance to read people's thoughts.

So what you're saying is, it's ok to break the law when you're with your family doing a "family event", but maybe if you're by yourself, say going to work, then it's game on for the cops? WTF kind of justice is that?

You do the crime, you do the time. It's pretty cut and dry. To me it's just a matter of hedging your bets on whether you get caught or not.

On a side note, the "end of the month" theory half of america seems to have is BS, quotas are illegal, and despite what people think, are not practiced.

I've been a fireman/EMT for 10 years and most of the deadly wrecks I've seen have been from speed or a drunk driver speeding. So I'm curious what exactly causes most of your vehicle deaths in your area? hang nails? paper cuts?:flipoff2:

For the people that need a billboard to let them know there is cops in this town they probably deserve a ticket. Everyone knows cops are everywhere I should know. I've had tickets from city/town cops, county mounties, and state poopers. I'm just waiting to get a ticket from one of those camera cops.

The only thing I have to add is you fucked up, you got caught.

But i do find it ironic that most of the time, cops break the safe speed limit to catch up to you to write a ticket for speeding..........

Just pay a lawyer to make it go away. Think of all the times you didnt get caught speeding. If anybody is keeping score your probly way ahead.
