Hmmm, I thought it was sundresses and short shorts… 🤷‍♂️

More slow progress on the chicken coop. I don’t really like this kind of work. Hopefully it get more funnerer as it approaches completion.

We had a window left over from our garage apartment build back in 2010 that has just been sitting under the deck for 15 years. Finally put it to good use!

How big are these fawking chickens!? That is a sturdy ass coop!

Holy overkill Batman! What kind of plumbing you gonna do. There is an instant hot water on here for sale so they can have hot water! If the chicken deal falls through, you could rent it out as a mini house on VRBO! 😆

Yeah, they are large premium chickens haha. I’ll run the lines for power and water later this week. Gonna do a Gaston county septic system though, tie in was too expensive for real septic. Waiting on a second quote for spray foam. I think the wife wants to do oak boards on the inside, but I’m probably just gonna do sheetrock.

Eden drive in, about 5 minutes down the road from my place. Yes they allow beer or anything else you want to bring, smelled several skunks get run over tonight during the movie:huggy::huggy::huggy:. And their burgers are made from locally raised beef.
We used to go there often. Glad to see it's still running.
Benji's in White Marsh up here is one of the oldest continuously running places in the country, we hit it a couple times a year.

Might be too late now, but the best thing I did when building my coop was put the nesting boxes protruding out of the actual coop. Think one of those window cat box deals except with a hinged roof. Way more convenient to quickly gather eggs and not have to walk in poop or shuffle chickens out of the way that try to escape every time you open the door. You could probably sneak it in under the window.

Already in the plan ;)

This is kinda cool to me.

I’ve always had a soft spot for animals. If I don’t intend to eat it - I will protect animals more than most folks .

Anyway my wife always decorates and has a wreath on the front of the house for the season.

Mama bird thought spring wreath was a good place for a bird nest.

So for two or three weeks visitors have had to come through either the garage or the back door.

Today Easter Sunday…apparently the eggs hatched.

Well the saga continues with a perilous twist.
Between the growing baby birds, the frequent feeding trips of mom and dad birds and the impressive volume of bird poop accumulation the suction cup supporting the wreath has begun to slip.

The photo shows just how far it has slid.
Supporting the wreath and not letting it fall - while not overly disturbing the nest and spooking mama bird away for good has proved a challenge.
I installed the fish hook supports on Wednesday but couldnt get the really tight without disturbing the wreath greatly or risking the nest tumbling off its perch.
A few days later the 10lb mono is tight as a banjo string.

Its a treacherous race against time. Google-fu says 10-14 days after hatch they should be able to fly. We are at day 7/8. Will they make it?

Or a snake shows up. Pulling for the birds. Also don't some try to nest every year in the same place?

What about getting a box or chair that is just teh right height and sliding it underneath it to support from the bottom

When you ask your youngest kiddo what his favorite part was about spending 5 days with daddy while mommy and older brother were out of town, and he says “playing with you in the sandbox in Boone”, then you have no choice but to build a sandbox at home!
12 screws, some junk decking boards, and 30 minutes later…

Yup. Pretty good car show. Really liked the GTX and the Maverick
Man we were planning on going…then my son called and said let’s go fishin so I did.

If I’d have known I could pet the puppies I’d have been there
