Random pic thread.

I've never been to a Rural King, but from the way yall talk, I wish we had one close by. The closest one to me is 41 minutes away up in Martinsville, VA.

Fall creek falls and mayo river trail is about halfway to rural king for you. It's an easy short trail, but beautiful and never very busy if anyone else at all. Would make a nice day trip and double your fun for the ride up there.

We usually go to the Wytheville RK but the Martinsville one occasionally.

2x27 ratchet straps are 9.99 right now.

Are you not closer to the conover store?
“Closest one to me used to be over an hour away in Morganton.” ;)

Conover is more like 40 minutes, which is dangerously close haha.

But honestly it works out better with it being closer because when I go, I dont have to worry about it being a long time before I go back, so I don’t overly “stock up”.

My ex-wife's family was from a very very small town in Illinois. The closest town was called Centralia. They had a rural King. It took us 40 minutes from where her family was from to get to the rural King, but when we got there I was simply amazed at everything they had. That area had an old school Walmart and maybe a couple of other stores but that's it. However when you went into rural King you could get hot peanuts, toys for the kids, parts for your tractor, a full line of clothing, a part for your car, tires, guns, ammo, bolts, everything an old school hardware had, plus everything you would ever want as a man shopping

Isn't Centralia the ghost town thats been burning underground for decades?

Summer nights just hit right.

From the way they talk I'm glad we don't have one

Not a bad haul for $40. Got a short backpacking trip coming up, and plan to do some back country hunting this fall up in nantahalah

Kelty is some nice stuff
It seems solid. I know exoframes aren't cool anymore, but it'll still do the trick. And man if that tent ain't light compared to my old Eureka 2 man army tent! Even if it did take me 30 minutes and 2 yt videos to figure it out lol.

To heck with that. I rocked an exo any time I could. Rules be damned I was gonna be comfortable and “unburdened” as much as I could given the rest of my crap ran about 85lbs in my pack. For anything over 4 days of field time. (And I packed minimal on the clothing side of things!)

Also a lot easier to tie your kill to after you quarter it.

I've got a little tent like that. One downside is that unlike that old Eureka the stakes are super important to holding its structure, so look out for rocky spots where ya cant get one in.

Oh also, pro tip - don't try to fold the tent up. Stuff it like ya do a mummy bag. Its WAY easier to get it to fit back in and you won't get wear at the folding seams.

Found 2 more. Going to get them tomorrow. Will have a “new” set on the Toyota. Thanks jeep people for never rotating your spares 😅

That is a nice little spot! I've been there about 4 to 5 times. I wish they would make the trail a loop. They should continue the trail up the hill from where it ends along the river, and wind it around through the forest back to the waterfall. Stopping there on the way to Rural King is a good idea.

You ain't kidding. It was .... different ..... to set up lol.

Coming home from my mom’s in Alabama, the interstate was shut down in Augusta, GA due to a tanker truck collapsing and burning an overpass for both sides of the highway. Here’s part of my detour. This was the good and wide section. Almost had to use 4WD a couple times.
