We had an 856 (actually 2 of them) when I was growing up before I could be turned loose on my own. Those fenders are great for riding shotgun as a kid. Much better than the H or M fenders on your ass. They were pretty stout machines with dual rears but cold in late fall and winter with no cab in Midwest. I used to love those IH tractors that had the TA lever. Something about releasing that and away you’d go that really did it for me. We had pairs of 560 diesels and a couple 856. Then moved to twin 1086 with cabs and thought we were in heaven. With heat and air. We’d fight about who got what as one had a cassette and one had 8-tract. A 1978 and 1979 model if memory serves. Row crop farming in lower Michigan in the 70s and 80s when I was a kid. Good times growing up. Everything up there was red, not green.
