Random Thoughts.....

if they require a digital registration/proof of insurance and no longer accept paper copy.
How is that different from how it's been?
For a long time you didn't really HAVE to have paper copies, and even if you did they'd look it up anyway.

And again what does it matter if there's multiple drivers or business? It's always been tied to the vehicle, not the person behind the wheel

Right but you keep the paper copies in the vehicle.

With electronic it will be behind a login of some kind. How many phones can have 1 registration card, insurance card etc.

Seems NC is doing away with the license plate stickers and paper reg. cards.......I'm sure that system cost many millions to implement every year. Printing stickers, printing cards, mailing them, and all the people to do all that in each of the 100 counties. $many millions.

So should I expect my registration bill to decrease next year?!
I honestly bet it isnt nearly as expensive as you think.

Automated printing, sorting, stuffing and mailing has been a thing for decades. When my wife was running her embroidery and vinyl business we also had a very quiet sticker business. On a much smaller scale than the DMV, I could print and ship a 3" x 5" sticker in full color, and foil back for well under $1.25 and ~.65 of that was first class postage. And no human ever touched the sticker or envelope.

yeah but again... if you want, you can still put a paper copy in the vehicle as a plan B. Nobody is preventing that.

The whole point is the driver doesn't have to have anything. Its all electronic bc the COPS have access to it, which they do already. Driver doesn't need a login.

You are missing that they didn’t change the law requiring the driver to present and hand over proof. Do they now require you to hand over your phone and all contents?

4th amendment much?

sure, some poeple do it online and I guess there are some automated processes to handle that

I spend a good bit of time at the DMV, buying and selling junk you know......and there's ALWAYS is a massive line in the 'registration renewal' side.....they walk up, pay, and get a printed out sticker and registration right there.

That is just one day I'm there, at one office, for an hour or so.

Multiply that by every office in the state, every day. Hundreds of people on the payrol for that process.......the office space needed, the overhead, the equipment...

Oh, and the gov't does it, so of course its 100% not efficient.

I can't wait to realize the savings! /s

Thats not what the NCDMV site says.
It flat out says you do not need to hand over a copy of anything.

Maybe print out a copy of that page and keep it in your glovebox instead :flipoff2:

That’ll work out well. Like the 2,700 Tennessee citizens arrayed for dui who were 0.0

Where have you been? It has been on the menu for years. 10% goes to all the to go disposable stuff for the specific order, rather than applying the costs to every order and raising all the prices. I wish more places did this instead of jacking up all the prices to pay for the extra disposable stuff for the fraction of people that do take out.

You really think styrofoam containers that cost fractions of a penny each are more expensive than washing dishes, cleaning the table, wear and tear on FFE etc.?

There is a reason food trucks are 4-6x more profitable than in service restaurants.

Infrastructure and rents. Buildings are ridiculous, mobile business permits are not. First cost on a well-sorted food truck is in the high five figures but cost to get into a leased brick and mortar would dwarf that figure.

I think that Waffle House is one of the last "reasonably priced" fast casual places to eat. I think that is because they charge for what you use, not what you *could* use. All that said dining out in ridiculously expensive in general and I started avoiding it many years ago so the budget can go to things more worthwhile.

The tip culture is also ridiculous, and that other 10% is well below the three buttons you get presented with on all these pay systems now. I almost universally press "custom" and type something that makes sense.
