What the HELL happened to this company?

My phone of 2 years just died recently, so I had to pick up a new one from Alltel this weekend..

Not only is their basic phones complete crap....their menu system is terrible. There is no EZ Tip Calc, no unit converters, the text message system is absolute garbage...

In short, anyone who needs a new cell phone plan, do NOT go with Alltel. Totally disappointing.

isnt alltel totally gone now, since verizon bought htem out?
edit, and it sounds like you're looking for more than a basic phone.

x2 - now I get the superior verizon service with the cheaper grandfathered in alltel prices. couldn't be happier (at least til they get iphone rights)

Who in the world needs a tip calculator?

Idiots like myself.

Im not looking for a phone that can get on the internet and perform open heart surgery. I just want a phone that can make/receive phone calls, and be halfway decent at texting.

This thing cost me 50 bucks and really, doesnt do ANY of that, and all of their entry level phones are the same.

I thought what was left of Alltel got sold off to somebody else.

Not too long after Verizon bought them, we switched 'officially' to Verizon. New contract, different plan, new (free) phones, same bad-ass network.

Ive had verizon for about 6 years probably... Useless when Im anywhere off the beaten path but otherwise has been very good, I have a blackberry, I send/recieve alot of emails and time is always an issue so it works for me. Only issue I have had is with the phone insurance, my phones cracked and hardly works for most features anymore and I have insurance but they still expect me to pay full price or wait for my contract to run out. Iwill either find a used phone on craigslist or wait it out, like hell if Im paying 200+ for a new phone when I am 2 months from a free one.

do like me and post up on facebook or whatever that you are looking for a phone... I've gone almost two years now on people's old phones that they just put in drawers when they upgrade. easy and free.

Never had much problem unless I'm REALLY out there... had service on the lake bed last week, just not up at Backdoor or Jackhammer.

I wonder now if the issue isnt as much alltel, as it is Motorola. Ive never had a Motorola phone before so I dunno if the menu on Moto's is just total junk or what...

I have Alltel and love it.. had Verizon and they pretty much screwed me on charges and wouldn't fix it...Ive always used the LG phones and had no problems. A bunch of my friends have Motorolas and have nothing but problems with them..

Ive got alot of friends who live around Bethany and I can't even get a text message nor phone call to go through when Im out there, I cut in and out of service in oakridge and stokesdale and madison, but whenever Im closer to greensboro I get great service.

I've had awesome service from my moto phone. Going on like 5 years with my moto phone and I've always thought the menues, etc. were fairly easy to understand. I've got the razr. However, I've found other moto phones (non razr) that are a little less user friendly

trust me verizon gets way better service than sprint, and the customer service@ sprint sux cockage:poop:

Mines a Razr I think...its the newest razr one.

I had Alltel, then was grandfathered into Verizon. I have changed my plan, so now Im officially Verizon I guess. Ive had no problems with signal strength, but I do have problems receiving calls sometimes. My phone just doesnt ring. I had the same problem with Alltel. I had sprint before and it sucked big time.

In regards to phone brands, I have not had good luck with motorola. I have a Samsung phone now, and I am much happier with it.

I've been with Verizon for about six years and don't have any real problems, they have given me several phones free (puppy chewed one) no hassels. They keep a file on you as a customer and comment on your attitude. Store in myrtle beach told me that I haven't cussed anybody out and paid my bills on time and gave me a new phone (got wet) I use Samsung and they're packed with stuff and I use most of it. Calender'3 alarm clocks, calculater and email and text. I going on 600 names and numbers and they backup my data for free.

Oh NOOOO!

College Boy is going to have to learn how to do math on is own.
What will he do?

IMO tip calculater shoudl be illegal. Crutches like this are why people are just getting stupider.
If you can't figure out or even estimate what 20% of something is, you don't deserve a college degree. You don't even deserve a high school diploma.
And that's doing it the easy way, b/c 15% must just be waay to damn hard...
(just move the decimal one place then add half of that).

I have Verizon and have been pretty happy with them. I despise my phone though. Been wanting to get a Droid phone, but they require you to get a $40 data plan. If you get the phone and cancel the data plan, they block everything including text messaging. WTF is the point of a wifi phone if you are required to have a data plan?

I'm going to be switching to AT&T next chance we get, they don't pull that shit on you.

I have AT&T campany phone and you will disapointed to find out that for the phone that is camparable to the droid which is hte Iphone they do charge 39.99 for data service. And if you travel any you will find that the only time At&t works is if you are by a major city.

It's bad enough that I still carry my Verizon phone so I can make calls when I am in the middle of no where.

You will soon be able to get Droid phones at AT&T. Not sure if they will do the same thing as Verizon or not. My brother has a Samsung Jack and he cancelled the data plan and just uses wifi and never has any issues with it.

Plus whenever we are together we always have the same signal on our phones no matter where we are.

Fyi, the data plan for AT&T is 30 bucks, not 39. Ive had an iphone for almost 2 years now, and love it. I'm back and forth between Charlotte and winston salem/greensboro all the time though, so i stay in their 3g network. I never have a problem with signal, and the 3g is retarded fast compared to verizon's 3g. even if i have 3g turned off and just use their "edge" network, I still load pages quicker than my buddy can on his droid.

I do lose signal north of my parent's house in Statesville, and when i go camping up in VA. From what Ive read, at&t's service in rural areas isn't the greatest, but if you travel internationally, theyr'e the company to go with. they supposedly have great worldwide coverage.
