Spring RCPFA Cheap Truck Challenge (CTC)

Unlimited Members are invited to field a team (In the capacity of Team Captain)
Other Participants and Spectators are not required to be members

Saturday, March 29th, 2014
Location: Big Boy's Playground (Harrisonburg, VA)
Start Time: 9:00 AM (teams must arrive by 8:00 AM)

Think you and your buddies have got the scrounging skills to build a crawler for $1,200? Here's your chance to do just that and pit your creation against your fellow cheapskates, tightwads, and penny pinchers!

Find it!

Pick your favorite beater and modify it as little or as much as you want all within the budget cap of $1,200 greenbacks. Massive sheetmetal cutting, spring overs, welded spiders and dry rotted 33's are the weapons of choice here. What you end up with probably won't be pretty or particularly capable, but that's all part of the fun.

Build It!

Spent the majority of your crawling fund already? The CTC is the perfect opportunity to team up with your fellow club or forum members and split costs. This is a great way to spend some quality time with your buddies buying and building a beater in the pursuit of cheap truck glory on March 29th!

Beat it!

Big Boy's fees will apply, $20 per rig, and $10 per participant/spectator. The fee includes open wheeling after the event.

I personally would think a bigger/better turn out would make it where anyone could show up instead of having to be a member of your club. Here's the way I see it if it was a club only race it wouldn't have been offered on an open forum & expecting participants to join their club to be eligible to participate. I cannot justify paying membership then fuel, food & entry fee..... I mean what's cheap about that ???? For me it would be at least $500
Just my .02

$90 a quarter or $250 a year is what I was told

Those are the correct amounts. I can understand what you're saying, 1BIGAZZBURBN, but RCPFA doesn't get anything out of this event that we are putting on if we don't have any members participating (We aren't getting any of the entry/usage fees for the use of the property) So a bigger turnout without memberships would be more work for us with still no benefit to the club. The event was originally conceived as a member event, and at the first one, several forum members here attended. At that time, the club was structured completely differently, and Membership was only $25, the participants paid for the last event too. You can call it an entry fee if you prefer, but we really couldn't put this event on any other way, and we posted it here because people here were interested and participated in the last one. No, it's not anywhere near as cheap as a trip to Uwharrie for you, so we understand if you choose not to participate, though we would like to have you come.

I wouldn't mind paying a "reasonable one day membership". What troubles me also is in Big Boy's website it say's "we try to have one truck & one ATV event each month. Treat each one like it's the last because you never know what might happen. I may have to subdivide the land and sell to pay my bills."

I get that and appreciate your point. Our rationale for requiring the team captain to be a club member/join the club is to promote RCPFA, and yes, raise funds. Those funds are not going in someone's pocket--they're going towards our goals of maintaining access to more wheeling locations.

The club membership and the entrance fee to Big Boy's Playground (the event site) is a relatively small portion of that $500 estimate you gave. Obviously we have no control of your travel/food expenses, and they'll vary for everyone. Your's just happen to be more given your location.

The guys who participated in the first event (myself included) really enjoyed this--hopefully we'll get a good group again who can justify what still is a pretty cheap form of motor sport. Thanks for your interest and let us know if you have any other questions.

Oh, I see part of what worries you there! Big Boys is NOT a regular wheeling venue for RCPFA, it's where we chose to have this event, because the county won't allow us to have these kind of events where we wheel regularly. If Big boys shuts down it won't change anything about RCPFA membership, We'll still wheel on member properties, as we have been all along, and that is no cost to members.

We are on the schedule for this event, and Big Boys, is not going to shut down before then. (And for the CTC events, we planned on rotating where we have them anyway.)

Think of it as an entrance fee for the event, and it comes with a free 90 Day membership to RCPFA for the team captain.

If you compare it to ECORS class AA, you have to be a member ($225), and pay a $75 entry per event. Compared to other forms of off road racing the CTC is cheap.

Do you have a schedule of event's lined up with dates & places already ???

For more CTC events? No specific dates beyond the March CTC--we will schedule a followup CTC in the Fall if the March CTC is well received.

I'm not trying to rain on your party BUT a race in March & " maybe have one in the fall if March is a success " is exactly why I will not join RCPFA at $90 per quarter or $250 a year to make 1 race with the possibility of 1 more in the fall. Y'all go ahead & have fun at your "members only" race... I'll be going to Dennis Anderson's place & swap paint with them

Actually, Yes, you obviously are.

I'll be going to Dennis Anderson's place & swap paint with them

Good for you, spend your money on what you feel is the best deal for you, that's what a free market is all about.. Sanford is an awfully long trip to wheel in Virginia, and it wouldn't be economical for you to take advantage of the other properties RCPFA wheels on (That are available every weekend, at no charge beyond membership).

Bigazz, honestly I'd love to respond in kind with Zuke above. However, I'm trying to keep in mind that you did get burnt on the cancelled event last year, and have just cause for a certain amount of hostility in your posts! Please consider that our hands were tied regarding the cancellation and that most of us had prepared vehicles as well and were in the same boat as you.

That being said, you continue to compare CTC to events which are entirely out of the scope of what we're doing (and commercial entities to boot.) CTC is all about scraping together a beater and having some fun on a Saturday. Sure we'd love to see it as a series (more fun), but regarding additional events we've never promised anything beyond the hope of it being more than a one-day affair.

Despite it's casual nature, CTC is a lot of work to put on. The only payoff for us (beyond sharing some fun with like-minded people) is helping our club get back on it's feet after a mentally and financially (think legal fees associated with land use) rough year or so.

We said at the time of the cancellation that we'd try to put another one on--We've been fighting for our club's life since and are just now in a position to make good on that and wanted to make sure you guys were aware. Bigazz--If the difference between the $25 membership fee of the first event and the $90 fee now is the sticking point for you, then let me know and I'll personally cover that difference ($65). You're on your own for Big Boy's Playground fees ($10 for your entry, and $10 for your vehicle).

SCREW YOU Zuke !!!!!!!!!! Don't be a dick

I GIVE UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I obviously have NO CLUE what it is really going to cost to go there & race... $90 membership, ??? entry fee to race & $20 for me to get into Big Dog's PLUS $10 for everyone I bring there with me as crew ?????????
I'm really NOT trying to be a dick... Just trying to get an idea just exactly what the fee's are going to be. I will pay (reasonably) to have fun BUT I'm not going to hock the Farm to do it

The fees are exactly as noted in the original post. Big Boy's Playground (the private location where we're holding the event) charges $10 per head and $10 per participating vehicle. Team captain (only one person on the team) needs to be a RCPFA member ($90 for a quarterly or $250 for a year.) No more, no less.

As I noted in my PM, my offer to you is sincere. I did not post this here to create a pissing match. I'm happy to answer any reasonable questions from those of you with an interest in the event.

SCREW YOU Zuke !!!!!!!!!! Don't be a dick

Wow, Really? PLEASE go back and read what YOU have posted previous to that post, and tell me you don't sound like a dick, better yet, get someone you trust to do that for you. If you can do that honestly, I'll apologize.

I was being serious when I said Sanford is too long a drive to make membership in RCPFA practical for you, I honestly don't think this event is a good deal for you, because the membership would not be useful to you.

If you lived somewhere like Greesnsboro, Or Raliegh, it would make a lot more sense.
