just took the rear bearing cap off this TJ and his seal does not have the "ears". Autozone gave him the fel pro bs 40612 with ears on it. Anybody else seen engines this early without the ears on the lower seal half? I guess we just get the bs 40183 seal and proceed? Jeep says manufactured in 10-99 so 2000 model

You'll need the later seal, say 2003 MY. Or you could trim the ears off too.
Make sure you apply a thin bead of RTV to the top of the cap upon reassembly so oil won't seep between the cap and block.
